Sailing & Biking in the Netherlands on baord of d’Eerstelling. Discover the notrhern parts of the Netherlands in two of the most Dutch ways: by sailing and biking. You will sail between some locations and bike to the others. If you like to be active during your holidays then this is the journey for you! You can rent a bicycle on board for EUR 70 (small number of electric bicycles available for EUR 110). You can sail with all your family – there are no age limits for this journey. 15% for children under the age of 14. Note: This trip may take part on another Ship: Confiance, instead. The itinerary will stay the same. Contact us at info@windseeker.org for details.

Programme Outline

The below is a planned itinerary, but keep in mind that the exact route may change depending on the weather and wind conditions! Day 1: Embark on the Ship in the Dutch port of Harlingen, get to know your fellow trainees and crew. Day 2: After a briefing on board you will hoist the sails and sail towards the island of Terschelling. Once there you can take the time to discover the harbor city and its surroundings.

Day 3: Biking around the Terschelling island - the Nethelands' most beautiful Nature Reserve. Ride your bike through forest and dune landscape along the North Sea coast. On the way you can take the time to enjoy the North Sea beach or visit a wreck museum. Day 4: You will first sail for 2-3 hours towards the Vlieland island, perhaps seeing seals on the sandbanks. After lunch it's time for another bike trip along the Wadden Sea side.

Day 5: Sailing to Texel. You will spend most of this day on the sea, taking the time to learn about sailing. Set the sails, steer and navigate before reaching your destination for the next 2 days. Days 6 and 7: Discovering Texel island by biking. Visit different places on the island, including picturesque villages and Nature Parks. On the afternoon of day 7 you will sail towards the mainland city of Den Oever.

Day 8: On your last day you will visit a dike before setting course for Harlingen. Here it's time to say goodbye to your new friends.

Ports

Harlingen is a trade and fishing port in Friesland, the Netherlands. The town itself is over a thousand years old, and you’ll find several historic streets in the old city centre. Its small size makes it easy to explore the town on foot. In 2014 Harlingen was a port of call for the Tall Ships Races. The town operates ferry lines to the Frisian Islands, a unique nature reserve with populations of seals, birds, and other wildlife. With its ‘gezellige’ pubs the town is a great place for a stopover.
