The Tall Ships Races 2017 – Cruise in Company. Every year a “Cruise in Company” leg is part of The Tall Ships Races. This leg is not a competitive event, but a cruise of friendship and adventure, giving the ships a choice of alternative sailing routes. The Cruise in Company leg is always suitable for crew exchange between participating vessels, it’s a chance to gain new experience and friends among the Tall Ships. The route between the ports Kotka and Turku leads throught the most beautiful archipelago of the eastern region of the Baltic Sea. The leg ends in the city of Turku, oldest city in Finland and one of the oldest in all of the Nordic region. There you can join the activities organised for all the vessels and the crewparade and crewparty. Open for all Windseekers, minimum age 15 years

The Tall Ships Races is the biggest annual sailing race of the year – and it’s been happening for over 6 decades now! The 2017 edition will be the 61st event and is scheduled to take place on the Baltic Sea, in 5 ports in 4 different countries. Ships from different countries, a lot of them with international crews, are scheduled to take part, making it a truly multicultural event and a great place to make sailor friends from all over the world!

All the Windseekers will have the chance to join the harbors’ festivals attractions, the Crew Parade and the Crew Party in the final port. You will be a part of the crew and will have a chance to work on the watch, train in the art of navigation, raise sails, practice seamanship skills and sail the ship. Kapitan Borchardt’s international crew will be pleased to give you an insight into sailing basics. Estimated sailing hours: 60-80 h* (Depends on weather conditions). Tidal waters: No.

Ports

Kotka is located in the gulf of Finland and is a major Finnish port on the Baltic Sea. You can experience its long maritime traditions by visiting the Maritime Centre Vellamo with the world's oldest ice-breaker, and if you have more time, stop by the aquarium with a big exhibition of local, baltic sealife – maybe you will even get to see the feeding done by a diver! Climbe the Haukkavuori tower for a view of the town and seaside and take a refreshing stroll through the Sapokka Water Park.

Turku is a Finnish city dating back to the XIII century. Join in the ships' spectacular route through the Turku Archipelago before being brought right into the middle of the city on the banks of the Aura River. Walk the cobblestone streets, visit the medieval castle, Forum Marinum maritime centre, or one of many art museums. Take a stroll down the river bank to find your favourite little restaurant or cafe.
