Join the Vega for an EU Exchange “Erasmus+” Journey for Windseekers from the following countries: Sweden, Denmark and UK. You will start in Gotheborg and have a special program in town. Afterwards you will sail to (Sail) Blyth with all the fantastic activities with crewparty and crewparade. Afterwards the North Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016 will start and together with a lot of vessels you will race to (Sail) Gotheborg! Besides sail training, you also will join an intercultural program. Make new international friends, learn how to handle the ship, and stand watch together with your fellow trainees and the crew. It promises to be an exhilarating journey. Programme Outline

Step on board, feel the wind, hear the seagulls and experience the Journey of a lifetime. Tall Ship Vega Gamleby will participate in the North Sea Tall Ship Regatta 2016 from Blyth (GB) to Gothenburg (SE). Sail the Ship from Gothenburg (SE) to Blyth (GB) and learn to sail the Ship and work with each other as a team. Then be ready to race together with fellow Windseekers from Blyth to Gothenburg.

First you will get to know the crew and the Ship and meet your fellow Windseekers. After explanation and familiarization it is time to follow some instructions. After all this it is time to hoist the sails together and you will be divided into watch groups. Besides sailing, there are a lot of games and activities to learn about each other and about each other cultures. The countries who can join this Journey Sweden, Denmark, Malta and the UK. Participants per country: is 8 or 9 youngsters.

On Saturday 20 August you have to arrive on board in Gothenburg, the departure will be on Sunday the 21st. Then you will be at sea for four days. At sea you will learn how to sail the Tall Ship. You will get to know everything that has to be done to get the Ship sailing. On Saturday the 27th you will arrive at Blyth. Blyth has a tidal deep water port which can accommodate the largest Class A ships. This port is welcoming ships for years and will provide a great hospitality during this festival.

After your stay in Blyth, you will race back to Gothenburg during the North Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016 with a lot of vessels from all over the world. In the following four days you will become a skilled sailor and you get close with your team on board. Gothenburg has an excellent reputation for delivering Tall Ship events. It’s the fifth time the city is hosting this Tall Ship event. Both ports have a spectacular environmental profile and help us sending sustainable messages!

Situated by the Kattegat Gothenburg is the second-largest city in Sweden. With the largest port in the Nordic countries. Due to its two universities, there are many students. Have a walk over the boulevard Kungsportsavenyn (known as Avenyn, "The Avenue"). Visit a museum or Liseberg, the largest amusement park in Scandinavia. Go to Haga district for its picturesque wooden houses and its well-known Haga bulle (cinnamon roll). Go to one of the parks or the famous Southern Gothenburg Archipelago.

Sponsorship and costs

Your Life on Board covers 17 days, starting on the 20h of August and ending on the 05th of September 2016. The normal price for this voyage is €1575. If you're from one of the partnering EU countries (Sweden, Denmark and UK) and 15 - 28 years of age, you are eligible for the reduced price of € 900. Price excludes drinks at the bar and transportation to and from the Ship. After the Journey's conclusion you may be eligible for a partial refund of transfer

This special project of 17 days is organized by Windseeker in coordination with partners in 3 different countries. The European Union provides partial funding through the "Erasmus+" programme. This programme promotes cultural exchanges between young European citizens. Erasmus+ covers a daily fee and hopefully a part of the traveling costs. This, combined with money from other funds, enables Windseeker to offer you this Journey at a reduced price.
