ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY & RESIDENTIAL PROJECT
Windseeker offers the golden award participants the opportunity to combine the Adventurous Journey and the residential project:
Step on board Tall Ship Vega Gamleby in Sweden for two weeks and to discover its beautiful coastline and islands. You will be joined with young people from 5 different European countries and will not only learn how to sail a Tall Ship, but also take part in a sustainability program organised by By the Ocean We Unite. This journey is co-financed by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.
ADVENTUROUS SAILING JOURNEY ON THE VEGA GAMLEBY IN SWEDEN
On the 4th of July your Adventurous Sailing Journey takes part in Sweden. You board the Tall Ship Vega Gamleby in Stockholm after having arranged your transport either yourself or with other Dutch (or foreign youngsters living in the Netherlands) trainees. The journey ends on the 18th of July in Malmo. Since this journey is co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the EU, you can get up to 275 euro transfer costs refunded.
On Vega Gamleby you take part in two programs:
1. Sail Training
2. Sustainability: Research, prevention and reduction of plastic pollution
THE SAIL TRAINING PROGRAM
Wind seems to be shifting. Time to trim the sails. Together, as a team. Motivate the team to pull the last centimeters: “One, two, three”. Next watch will start at 06.00. Time to prepare coffee and breakfast for them. Get the Tall Ship organized again, before a well-deserved meal together. A meal prepared by those trainees who said they couldn’t cook. It tastes great.
Together with your fellow trainees you learn how to sail a tall ship. You are part of the crew!
Sail Training involves more than just learning how to set the sails, or navigating using a magnetic compass. It includes a complete development program that enables you to grow in many ways:
– Discover your talents
– Learn to take responsibility
– Develop your leadership skills
– Deal with cultural differences
THE SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM
Sustainability and sailing are closely related. During this journey you will have the opportunity to do plastic research with the marine biologist from By the Ocean we Unite organization. You will fish microplastics from the water, measure and analyse them, and send the data to a global database. You will also organise and participate in local actions, such as beach cleanups, awareness campaigns and visiting places with good environmental practices in place.
