Bark Europa:
Falkland Islands (FK) - Punta Arenas (CL)

01 December - 13 December 2019

Crossing the Strait of Magellan. This unique voyage will bring you from the remote Falkland Islands to the Chilean port of Punta Arenas. To do this, you will cross the famous Strait of Magellan, a sea route separating the mainland South America from Terra del Fuego. The journey will end in Punta Arenas, a port town in Chile and the capital of the Magallanes and Antartica Chilena region. What better place to end the journey commemorating 500 years of Magellan’s own expedition! The price excludes landing fee in the Falklands (approx. GBP 10-25 per person per landing, to be paid on board). Open to Windseekers of 15 years and older. Limited places in 2-person cabins available.

Ports

Falkland Islands is a British overseas territory and an archipelago at the very south of South American continent. The breathtaking nature is the main reason for tourism, with amazing landscapes and numerous species of birds (including pinguins), seals and dolphins. Even if you’re not much of a nature lover you will still find things to do. Check out the local woolen crafts – or join workshops to make some yourself; see a traditional dance performance and don’t miss The Historic Dockyard Museum.

Punta Arenas, a regional capital in Chile, is located on the Brunswick peninsula north of the Strait of Magellan. The city is often a base for Antarctic expeditions. Originally established as a penal colony in the 19th century, Punta Arenas has developed into a major logistic centre. The surrounding nature is inhospitable, but the locals more than make up for it. Punta Arenas offers sharp contrasts, between affluence and poverty, between historic and modern. An interesting place to visit!
