Reach your destination and spend the last 2 days of your adventure in harbour, meeting the international crews of other vessels, taking part in Crew Parade, Crew Parties and other events. For all Windseekers aged 15 and older.
The Tall Ships Races
In 1956 the first ever official tall ships race took place. 20 vessels sailed from Great Britain to Portugal to promote Sail Training and international friendship. Originally meant as a single event, the race gained huge public interest and soon turned into an annual event, currently organized by Sail Training International.
Each year dozens of Tall Ships, as well as small ships and yachts gather for races, but also harbour events: Crew Parades, Crew Parties, competitions, concerts and more.
In 2021 the fleet will once again explore the Baltic Sea. Race 1 will start in Klaipeda, Lithuania, and end in Russian St. Petersburg. Then the Tall Ships will cruise in company to Estonia’s capital in Talinn. The second race will bring them to Aaland Islands, an autonomous region of Finland, before they set course for Polish Szczecin in the final leg.
Mariehamn is the capital of Aaland Islands, an autonomous archipelago off the coast of Finland. The town has maritime ties, seen when visiting the Aaland Maritime Museum and the impressive Pommern museumship. Don’t miss the old Maritime Quarter with its old fishermen houses and boats. With less than 12,000 inhabitants Mariehamn has a cozy and friendly atmosphere.
Szczecin in North-Western Poland has a deep commitment to sail training. Discover the Underground City Trails: a network of bunkers from WWII with their unique atmosphere. If you’re more of an outdorsy type, take a canoe along the Odra river or explore Bukowe Hills which hide the ruins of old bridges and are home to numerous boars and deer. Visit one of many museums or the Castle of Pomeranian Dukes or the beautiful rose gardens.
