The Tall Ships Races 2023: Cruise in Company and Race 2. An epic combination voyage during the Tall Ships Races. Join Cruise in Company from Fredrikstad in Norway to Lerwick in the Shetland Islands. Spend the time getting to know the Ship and learning to sail so that you can start race 2 prepared! Discover the beauty of Scottish Shetland Islands and participate in the Tall Ship Festival, before joining the race back to Norway. Steer, navigate, handle the sails, and check your standing in the race regularly. Reach Arendal and spend the last night on board, leaving the Ship after 2,5 weeks of sailing adventures on the North Sea! Open to Windseekers aged 15+. Young trainees (ages 15-25) can stay an additional night on board after the journey to participate in the Crew Parade and Crew Party. Price: €75 per person, based on bed & breakfast (no lunch or dinner on the additional day), with disembarkation right after breakfast.

The Tall Ships Races

Every year dozens of Tall Ships, as well as small ships and yachts gather for races and harbour events, which include Crew Parades, Crew Parties, competitions, concerts, fireworks and more. Every leg starts with Parade of Sail – a spectacular departure of all the Ships together, and ends with the last two days of the Journey spent in the destination port.

The Tall Ships Races 2023 will take the fleet across the North Sea 4 times! Starting in Den Helder, the Netherlands, the Ships will embark on Race 1 to Hartlepool in Great Britain. Race 2 will take them to Norwegian Fredrikstad, from where they will sail in Cruise in Company to Lerwick in the Shetlands. The final Race 3 will end back in Norway – this time in a charming town of Arendal.

Ports

100 km south of Oslo, Fredrikstad is a coastal town, on the East side of the Oslofjord. Fredrikstad has a mix of old and new - The 'Gamlebyen' Old Town is a well-preserved star fort, across the water from the modern waterfront. Visit the 16th-century Kongsten fort, or Scandinavia's largest model railway. Fredrikstad has successfully been a host port for the Tall Ship Races before, welcoming sailors and visitors with great events.

Arendal is a charming town in the south of Norway. Its old city centre still retains wooden houses, dating back to the 17th century. The old harbor Pollen hosts the fish market, cafes and restaurants. Step into one of them to enjoy a meal with a view. The surrounding countryside is hilly and green, and offers beautiful vistas over the islands and waterways nearby. You can also stay in town and visit the KUBEN Museum to learn about the local history or explore the science center.

STO Garant

This Journey is covered by the STO Garant guarantee. You can find the conditions for this guarantee scheme on STO Garant’s website (www.sto-garant.nl/en/downloads).

This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything else. After receiving your booking, Windseeker will send you detailed information on how and when to pay for your journey – together with all the other important details.

What does it mean?

In short: you do not pay the booking amount to Windseeker but instead into an escrow account. This trust account holds your payment in reserve until your journey’s end. The booking amount is then released to Windseeker on the day after your trip ends. If Windseeker or the Ship should become financially insolvent before the end of your trip, STO Garant will implement the guarantee. The Guarantee Scheme details how you can make a claim under the guarantee in such cases. You can read more about this here.
