Christian Radich: Kristiansand (NO) - IJmuiden (NL)
08 August - 11 August 2020
Crossing the sea. Join Christian Radich in the southernmost Norwegian town of Kristiansand, known for its laidback atmosphere and beautiful beaches. Spend 2 hours getting familiar with the ship and crew and set course for the south, on a journey of about 400 nautical miles. Sail through the Skagerrak strait, along the coast of Denmark and on to the Netherlands. Drop an anchor in IJmuiden along beautiful beaches. IJmuiden is Amsterdam’s gateway to the North Sea. Make your way to Schiphol Airport or, better yet, prolong the adventure by booking accommodation in Amsterdam and staying along for the SAIL Amsterdam 2020 event which lasts from 12th until 16th of August. There is no possibility to prolong the stay on board in this journey. Open to Windseekers aged 8 and older, children aged 8-11 sail for free (accompanied by an adult), ages 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult.
Kristiansand is the business and cultural capital of southern Norway. The sea and surrounding fjords are perfect for recreational activities like fishing and sailing, and the nearby inland and mountains are ideal for skiing and hiking. In the more urban areas you will find a rich variety of cafes, restaurants, art galleries and museums.
IJmuiden, on the west coast of the Netherlands, is the water gateway to Amsterdam. Cruise ships, cargo vessels and pleasure yachts pass through its busy locks every day while the IJmuiden marina provides an excellent shelter from the North Sea storms. IJmuiden offers a wide, sandy beach that is popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers. Behind the dunes you’ll find a small nature reserve, perfect for a hike or a run. IJmuiden’s restaurants serve fresh fish, straight from the local market.
