About the Journey
Sail for Unity on the Eendracht along the coast of Spain. Join an intense program combining intercultural learning with Sail Training and research, prevention and reduction of plastic pollution. Sounds serious? Not at all! During the International Exchange you experience fun activities and learn in the process. We can almost guarantee that when you take stock at the end of the project, you’ll be surprised by how much you’ve achieved without noticing!
Plastic pollution exceeds national borders and that’s why it’s appropriate for 5 nations to come together in order to find solutions. Share your own country’s best environmental practices and learn from the others. Help with the research of microplastic in the oceans. Organise local actions with sustainability theme. Experience the pure beauty of nature while out on the open sea and get inspired to protect it, joining the global movement of climate ambassadors.
Spend 2 weeks living in your own ‘miniature EU’ society on board. Learn to cooperate with people of different backgrounds, discovering the similarities and using the differences to your advantage. Practice communication, teamwork, conflict resolution… Make friends with people you would never have met otherwise. Join games, challenges and intercultural activities, and feel free to propose your own. Take charge of your own educational process and rediscover the joy of learning new things!
The Eendracht will be your home, transport and much more! Learning from the crew, you will soon start to do sailing tasks on your own, taking on more and more ambitious projects. Sail Training is more than pulling the lines: it’s challenging yourself to try new things, taking responsibility, working in a team and learning to communicate. It’s also a very satisfying experience! Stepping off board you’ll discover that you are less intimidated by ‘scary’ things and more willing to give them a try.
The oldest city in Spain, with a wealth of historic landmarks. Water is never far away, as the old town is built on a narrow stretch of land jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea. Get lost in the Old town with its many narrow, winding streets and visit one of the many parks that dot the city. Its many cathedrals and plazas are also well worth a visit. Go to La Caleta beach, at La Viña, the old fisherman quarter. Go catch a Flamenco concert and feast your taste buds with the fresh sea foods.
A Coruña is a port town in the north west of Spain. Here you will find the Tower of Hercules, a lighthouse that has been in operation for 1.800 years! The town itself is an affluent commercial and tourism hub, with plenty of things to see and do. Visit the popular beaches, explore the city centre, or sample some of the many cultural activities. The Aquarium Finisterrae lets you explore the marine life of the region. But if you prefer your fish on a plate, A Coruña’s restaurants can help you out.
