About the Journey
Set course beyond the known horizon and sail past your comfort zone. Embark on an international journey with sustainability theme. Take charge of your own learning process and discover the whole new way of learning by doing. Be the part of a team of like-minded people and together be a part of a global movement against climate change.
Sail a 100-year old Tall Ship with all that it entails. The experienced crew will teach you everything you need to know while gradually giving you more responsible tasks. The Ship is not only your home, but also a great classroom/playground where you’ll get to try so many new things! Steering such a large vessel is a very powerful feeling, while the view from the mast is not easy to forget! Let your adventurous spirit free and enjoy the many life lessons offered by sailing.
Live sustainable lifestyle which is a must on board. Conserve limited fresh water, carefully separate trash and sail using the power of the wind as much as possible. Join a marine biologist in plastic research of the oceans: collect, analyze and describe samples. Organise local climate actions such as a beach cleanup, an educational happening or an awareness lecture. Share experiences and ideas with your peers from other countries and go back home full of inspiration for more sustainable life.
Meet people from different cultures and backgrounds. On board you will spend 24 hours a day together, speaking English, getting confused by and explaining cultural differences, trying new food and taking in your similarities and differences. The mentors will encourage you to set personal learning goals at the beginning of the project. All of them are valid and important. At the end you will reflect on your experience and receive a YouthPass certificate of skills and competences.
The Hague is the seat of government in the Netherlands and the third-largest city of the Netherlands, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam. King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands plans to live at Huis ten Bosch and works at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague, together with Queen Máxima. Most foreign embassies in the Netherlands and 150 international organisations are located in the city. This is one of the major cities hosting the United Nations, along with New York, Geneva, Vienna and Addis Ababa.
With more bicycles than people, cycling is an integral part of Amsterdam’s DNA. Hop on and see the city like the locals do! Winding waterways, idyllic bridges and historic buildings – one of the most memorable ways to truly see Amsterdam is from the canals. Amsterdam has a full cultural agenda showcasing the very best festivals, nightlife, exhibitions & events, plus there is enough practical tourist info, hotel, museum, excursion & attraction listings, you won’t miss a thing!
