Statsraad Lehmkuhl:
Dunkirk (FR) - IJmuiden (NL)

08 August - 11 August 2020

Towards SAIL Amsterdam. This short journey is very exciting as it brings you from one Tall Ships festival to another! After the finishing of the Tall Ships Races, the vessels will make their way to Amsterdam for the 10th edition of the event which happens only every 5 years. Embark on Statsraad Lehmkuhl in northern France and sail along the coast of Belgium and the Netherlands to IJmuiden, a coastal town near Amsterdam. From there you can make your way to the city by public transport. We recommend arranging your own accommodation in Amsterdam after the journey so you can visit the festival. Open to all ages, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Dunkirk is the northernmost city in France and one if its biggest harbours. It lies very close to the Belgian border and dates back to middle ages when it was a fishing village. Dunkirk’s maritime heritage is clearly visible, and celebrated. You can visit the Port Museum (Musée Portuaire), climb to the top of Le Beffroi de Saint-Eloi for unforgettable views or relax in one of the multiple seafront cafes and bars.

IJmuiden, on the west coast of the Netherlands, is the water gateway to Amsterdam. Cruise ships, cargo vessels and pleasure yachts pass through its busy locks every day while the IJmuiden marina provides an excellent shelter from the North Sea storms. IJmuiden offers a wide, sandy beach that is popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers. Behind the dunes you’ll find a small nature reserve, perfect for a hike or a run. IJmuiden’s restaurants serve fresh fish, straight from the local market.
