Glowing meadows in Hornstrandir. Sail around the north-west Iceland in this expedition out of Isafjordur. The highlight of this trip is visitng Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, which can only be reached by boat. If possible you will then sail on to other beautiful places – the locations will depend on time and weather conditions. Expect to see flowery fields, arctic foxes with their cubs, nesting birds and very possibly – whales. Open for all Windseekers, minimum age 15 years.
Isafjordur (meaning ‘fjord of ice’) is a small port town in the northwest of Iceland. It is a major access point to the nature reserve on the Hornstrandir Peninsula, an uninhabited wilderness area to which ferries run weekly during summer. Despite its small population of 2600 people, the town has a relatively urban feel. It is considered a centre for alternative music and there’s even a hospital. Have a look around in the Maritime museum or go for a tour of the waterfalls and the nearby fjords.
