Tecla:
Isafjordur (IS) - Nuuk (GL)

30 June - 19 July 2021

Course: Greenland! Embark on a great adventure which combines sailing on the Atlantic and exploring the rarely visited island. The voyage starts in Isafjordur, Iceland, from where you will make the crossing over the Atlantic waters. Once you make your way around the drift ice, you will be rewarded by breathtaking views of southern Greenland. With 22 days to reach the town of Nuuk, you can expect to have plenty of time to explore the nearby fjords. Finally you will bring the Tecla to Greenland’s largest town. With 17,000 inhabitants it’s a perfect place to see the daily lives of local people today, and eventually catch one of the regular planes to Reykjavik. Open for all Windseekers, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Isafjordur (meaning ‘fjord of ice’) is a small port town in the northwest of Iceland. It is a major access point to the nature reserve on the Hornstrandir Peninsula, an uninhabited wilderness area to which ferries run weekly during summer. Despite its small population of 2600 people, the town has a relatively urban feel. It is considered a centre for alternative music and there’s even a hospital. Have a look around in the Maritime museum or go for a tour of the waterfalls and the nearby fjords.

Nuuk is the capital of Greenland and, with over 17,000 inhabitants its largest city. The earliest settlements date back to 2200 BC. In the 10th century Nuuk was inhabited by the Vikings and shortly after by Innuit people. Visit the Greenland National Museum and Archives, Katuaq Cultural Centre, Nuuk Art Museum and the Cathedral, and enjoy strolling around town and taking in its unique architecture.
