Reykjavik (IS) - Isafjordur (IS)

12 June - 20 June 2021

Wild Wild West. Step on board the Tecla in Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital city and get to know the crew. This voyage will take you west and north, around the coast of Iceland to Isafjordur, accompanied by killer whales, fin whales, humpbacks and sperm whales. Along the way you will make many stops to explore the rugged beauty of Iceland. Visit small, remote fishing ports with unique atmosphere and hike more and less challenging trails. Spend some time in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, the place of magnificent vistas and aboundant wildlife including arctic foxes and puffins! Finally, after an adventurous week of sailing and exploring, you will reach Isafjordur. From here you can take a plane to go back, or book a hotel and spend several more days discovering this part of Iceland on your own. Open for all Windseekers, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Reykjavík is the capital of Iceland. As you approach from the sea, you’ll sea a modern city skyline with snowy volcanic mountains in the background. Reykjavík is quite cosmopolitan, with plenty of culture and entertainment. Go for a night on the town, or find a tour that takes you to see the glaciers, geysers, and volcanoes for which Iceland is famous. Reykjavík’s climate is less cold than you’d expect. At Nauthólsvík you’ll even find a geothermically heated beach!

Isafjordur (meaning ‘fjord of ice’) is a small port town in the northwest of Iceland. It is a major access point to the nature reserve on the Hornstrandir Peninsula, an uninhabited wilderness area to which ferries run weekly during summer. Despite its small population of 2600 people, the town has a relatively urban feel. It is considered a centre for alternative music and there’s even a hospital. Have a look around in the Maritime museum or go for a tour of the waterfalls and the nearby fjords.
