About the Journey
Are you looking for something special this summer? Do you want to do something fun yet meaningful? Join a sailing adventure with sustainability theme and explore the coast of Sweden. Spend your time living and sailing with people of different backgrounds, ethnicities, religions. Explore the similarities and celebrate the differences between you. Try the best foods from other countries and learn by experience that even differences can work in your favor.
Sailing is by its nature a sustainable activity. For example, we have to mind the limited fresh water supplies on board. In accordance with the theme this journey will take place on a vegetarian ship and we will plan the route so as to avoid using the engine as much as possible. You will actively join in monitoring the plastic levels in the sea with a biologist from By the Ocean we Unite. You will also organise local actions such as cleanups and awareness campaigns.
Of course Sail Training will be a big part of your adventure! Together with the other participants you will receive more responsibilities each day, until you are able to do most tasks on board by yourselves. Setting sails? Steering? Navigating? You won’t even notice when you’ve taken over the ship! The sense of satisfaction is difficult to explain but you will remember it for many years!
No budget? No worries! The Windseeker Dinghy will help you get on board. The program, much more than just a fundraising training, is part of your preparation and included in the Exchanges. Raise money for your journey, supported by an experienced coach. Learn new things about yourself and gain life skills. It is also a great way to connect with other trainees. Let us know at booking if you’d like to take part. It's a good idea, really. Regardless of financial reasons. Join Dinghy and get going!
Swim, paddle and shop in this city rich with culture and history. Stockholm is located on Sweden’s south-central east coast, where the freshwater Lake Mälaren, Sweden’s third largest lake, flows into the Baltic Sea. Over 30% of the city area is made up of waterways. Another 30% is made up of parks and green spaces. Stockholm has become a modern, technologically advanced, and ethnically diverse city. Have fun while exploring this ‘Venice of the North’, on the water and the shores.
Malmo is a Swedish city dating back to the Middle Ages when it was an important Hanseatic trading port. It is famously connected to Copenhagen with an 8 kilometer bridge. The long history makes Malmo a nice city for a stroll. Visit the Malmo Castle, have a snack in the Lilla Torg square, relax in one of several parks and admire the gothic Sankt Petri Church.
