The 10th edition of SAIL Amsterdam will take place between August 12th and August 16th, 2020. Every five years over 600 vessels and more than two million visitors come to the city, making SAIL Amsterdam one of the largest nautical events in the world. Furthermore it is an important part of Dutch cultural life.
Since 1975 the event showcases everything the city has to offer. It promotes classical ships, and both Dutch and worldwide maritime heritage. Last but not least, it encourages young people to discover sailing. Want to do more than just walk the streets and admire the vessels? Windseeker has you covered!
From Dunkirk to IJmuiden: Join the ships sailing from French city of Dunkirk, the last host port of this year's Tall Ships Races. Sail along the coast of Belgium to IJmuiden, outside of Amsterdam. The SAIL Amsterdam activities are not included in this leg. If you want to join the Sail In Parade, go to SAIL Amsterdam page here.
From Amsterdam to Bremerhaven: Board one of the Tall Ships at the end of the festival. Join hundreds of vessels sailing out of Amsterdam in a spectacular Parade (included). Then set course for the North Sea and make your way to Germany. Reach Bremerhaven where another maritime event will take place.
Before SAIL Amsterdam a lot of the vessels will be taking part in the Tall Ships Races in Portugal, Spain and France. You can join any of the 3 legs, which include several days of racing on a Tall Ship and 2 days of harbour events: parties, parades, fireworks, concerts and more! Click here to learn more.
If you're between 15 and 25 years old you can join one of Windseeker's new special programmes: Exchange@sea. Sail into the mix and make international friends. Take part in research into microplastics, learn to sail a Tall Ship and visit wonderful places. Learn more about Exchange@sea here.
