The Williwaw is proudly owned by the City of Antwerp and operated by Sail Training Association Belgium. Designed for rough seas, this well-built vessel from the 1970s serves as a platform to inspire young people and awaken their passion for life at sea.
Williwaw made its mark in 1979 when Willy de Roos became the first to sail around the American continent from east to west, navigating the Northwest Passage from Greenland through the Bering Strait to reach North America’s west coast. Later, he sailed to Antarctica to observe the early signs of climate change.
A major refit in 2022 equipped Williwaw with a new deck, motor, and advanced navigation systems, ensuring it remains ready for new adventures.
On board, Williwaw offers comfortable and practical living spaces. It features a saloon, front and aft cabins, heating, a fridge, and an oven. Trainees sleep in four bunk beds in the front, while additional sleeping areas include two beds in the aft cabin and one in the saloon. Modern Raymarine navigation equipment, a charging system for mobile devices, and essential facilities make Williwaw the perfect setting for a memorable sailing experience.
