Ya

History

The vessel was born once a group of enthusiastic sailors with the skipper Peter, started a foundation in the Netherlands. Naval architect Dick Koopmans designed the Sustainable Yacht especially for the project. The realization was made possible thanks to lots of help and money of many sponsors, donors and last but not least volunteers. This way a sustainable yacht was created, complete with with solar panels and wind generator. The Ya is a demo yacht for everybody who wants to experience sustainable sailing. And thanks to the sponsors, it is affordable, so that everybody can join.

Ship

The ‘Ya’ sails the oceans of the Earth energy-neutral. Therefore, she uses no fossil fuels, so no diesel, no gas, ethanol, whatsoever. With this autonomy, she is really free to go any to place her crew wants to visit. The vessel is designed as an ocean worthy yacht and she sails the oceans. On the other hand the Ya can go any place inshore on lakes and canals, with its draught of 70 centimeters (2 ½ feet).

Very special are the windows in the full length of the hull. This makes the accommodation  very spacious.

The rigging shows that the Ya is  a real sailors’ yacht. Next to a main and staysail, there is also a mizzen and mizzen staysail. The long bowsprit can bear an outerjib/yankee, or a great genaker.  This rigging makes sailing a joy, and you can even make her self steering.

The Ya is a demo yacht for everybody who wants to experience that you can sail sustainable. And thanks to the sponsors, it is affordable, so that everybody can join.

Accommodation

The ‘Ya’ has two silent electric engines, a spacious saloon, a spacious galley with an induction cooker, microwave, oven, freezer and fridge, two water systems, all LED lights, a 12Volt and 230Volt system and USB outlets everywhere. So the yacht is sustainable, but still very comfortable.
Most comfort is provided by the space on board. The Ya only has three berths, an unusually small number for a vessel her size. Instead of filling the vessel with berths and cabins, her creators chose space, place for relaxation, peace, and enjoying the nature.
