*FULLY BOOKED – join another Ship for this leg* The Tall Ships Races 2023: Cruise in Company, part 2. Join the beautiful Norwegian Tall Ship Christian Radich for the voyage to Shetland Islands. Spend 5 days on board, sailing across the North Sea towards Scotland. Learn to steer, navigate, climb the masts and trim the sails. Spend a few days and nights out at sea, enjoying digital detox, lack of light pollution, and making new friends. Reach Lerwick in the Shetland Islands and spend the last night on board among many other Tall Ships gathered there for the end of this leg of the Tall Ships Races. Open to Windseekers aged 15+. Young trainees (ages 15-25) can stay an additional night on board after the journey to participate in the Crew Parade and Crew Party. Price: €75 per person, based on bed & breakfast (no lunch or dinner on the additional day), with disembarkation right after breakfast.

The Tall Ships Races

Every year dozens of Tall Ships, as well as small ships and yachts gather for races and harbour events, which include Crew Parades, Crew Parties, competitions, concerts, fireworks and more. Every leg starts with Parade of Sail – a spectacular departure of all the Ships together, and ends with the last two days of the Journey spent in the destination port.

The Tall Ships Races 2023 will take the fleet across the North Sea 4 times! Starting in Den Helder, the Netherlands, the Ships will embark on Race 1 to Hartlepool in Great Britain. Race 2 will take them to Norwegian Fredrikstad, from where they will sail in Cruise in Company to Lerwick in the Shetlands. The final Race 3 will end back in Norway – this time in a charming town of Arendal.

Ports

Stavanger is a vibrant modern port with a charming historic district. Its picturesque old harbour offers a lively atmosphere right in the heart of the city. Stavanger boasts a rich cultural scene and is the perfect gateway to some of Norway’s most stunning natural landscapes. Don’t forget your hiking boots – the surrounding mountains promise unforgettable views. Discover the dramatic Lysefjord, hike to the famous Preikestolen and Kjerag cliffs, or unwind on the sandy beaches of Jæren.

Lerwick is the capital of the Shetland Islands, 160 km north off the coast of Scotland. In 1999 the town of 7500 inhabitants was a host port to the Tall Ships Races, temporarily boosting the population by over 100%! The town itself is small, but there are beautiful sights to see, like Fort Charlotte, the Shetland museum and the ruins of Clickimin Broch. The island’s windswept hills are perfect for a strenuous hike, and will give you a good reason to replenish lost calories in the town’s tavern.
