Excelsior:
Aalborg (DK) - Lowestoft (GB)

03 August - 12 August 2026

Build your miles and experience on this passage from Aalborg, Denmark through Germany’s Keil Canal and across the North Sea, to deliver Excelsior safely home in Lowestoft. If you’ve sailed on modern yachts, sailing on Excelsior is a wonderful way to learn what it takes to sail a 105-year traditionally rigged vessel without the benefit of winches. This is an ideal trip if you want to start learning to sail and really cement your new skills on a longer trip; there’ll time to learn about navigation, passage planning, chart plotting and much more – just ask the Excelsior crew and they’ll happily include you in everything they do. It is also perfect for the DofE Gold Residential Award, and is accredited as such. The skipper is your Assessor and alongside the crew, will help you achieve any particular outcomes you’d like to include. Your fellow trainees will be a mixed group of individuals with a variety of sailing experiences, ages and backgrounds, but all wanting to get as much fun and fulfilment from the adventure as you.
Open to all Windseekers aged 15+.

Ports

Aalborg has shared a special connection with The Tall Ships Races since first hosting the event in 1999. Located on the Limfjord, the city was founded by Vikings over a thousand years ago and still proudly showcases its historic roots. Today, Aalborg is a modern, vibrant city with a rich cultural scene – home to theatres, a symphony orchestra, museums, and performance venues. It’s the perfect place to relax and reflect after an unforgettable sailing adventure.

Lowestoft is a town on the North Sea coast of England. It is an old sea port and fishing center. Cherish the atmosphere of the lively harbour with its fountains, coffee shops and little food stands. Visit the Mincarlo – Floating Maritime Museum to learn about the life of fishermen in the old days or an old Lowestoft and East Suffolk Maritime Museum run by volunteers who will happily share their knowledge. For a relaxing afternoon take a walk in Somerleyton Hall and Gardens.

OTHER JOURNEYS YOU MIGHT LIKE

STO Garant

This Journey is covered by the STO Garant guarantee. You can find the conditions for this guarantee scheme on STO Garant’s website (www.sto-garant.nl/en/downloads).

This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything else. After receiving your booking, Windseeker will send you detailed information on how and when to pay for your journey – together with all the other important details.

What does it mean?

In short: you do not pay the booking amount to Windseeker but instead into an escrow account. This trust account holds your payment in reserve until your journey’s end. The booking amount is then released to Windseeker on the day after your trip ends. If Windseeker or the Ship should become financially insolvent before the end of your trip, STO Garant will implement the guarantee. The Guarantee Scheme details how you can make a claim under the guarantee in such cases. You can read more about this here.
