Do you want to sail on a Tall Ship? Then you’ve come to the right place! Join one of the Journeys and have an unforgettable adventure: no matter your age or nationality. No sailing experience needed.

Step on the bridge and try your hand at navigation, plotting the course on the sea charts. Challenge yourself to climb the masts at least once, and you will be rewarded by breathtaking views. Unfurl the sails and get back down to hoist them together with your crew mates. Once they’ve filled out with the wind, it’s time to take the helm! Do you know the feeling of steering a huge Tall Ship by yourself? Nothing is quite like it! When the manoeuvres are done you can breathe in the sea air and relax on deck. Sing some shanties, look for dolphins, or admire the sun setting into the waves.

Sounds good? Check out some of our adventures below and if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact Janine at info@windseeker.org – she will be happy to advise you!

The Tall Ships Races

Every year dozens of Tall Ships, as well as small ships and yachts gather for races and harbour events, which include Crew Parades, Crew Parties, competitions, concerts, fireworks and more. Every leg starts with Parade of Sail – a spectacular departure of all the Ships together, and ends with the last two days of the Journey spent in the destination port. The event is aimed at promoting Sail Training among young people (15-25), but some Ships have places available for all ages.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sail Training?

Sail Training is an experiential learning program where you learn by doing. Aside from practical aspects of seamanship, Sail Training teaches leadership, teamwork and responsibility. It builds confidence. Most of all, it’s a fun adventure you will remember for a long time!

To find out more go to our dedicated Sail Training page.

Who can join your Journeys?

In order to join most Journeys you have to be at least 15 years old and in reasonably good health. Some Journeys have upper age limits or set nationalities if they’re a part of a project. Some coastal trips can be joined by families with children as well.

Some disabilities and medical conditions can be accommodated on different Ships, so let us know if you’re concerned about being able to join on medical grounds.

Different dietary needs can be catered to as well.

When you register, we ask you to fill out a health statement. Fill it out to the best of your knowledge and we will contact you if we need to follow-up.

How to book a Journey?

Booking with Windseeker is easy, whether you are joining a single leg, multiple Journeys on the same vessel, or even on different vessels!

Go to the page of your chosen Journey and click “Book this Journey” in the blue field on the right. You will be directed to an online form where we ask some of your personal details (like your passport number, address and birthday). These are necessary to provide harbour customs with a passenger list so please fill them out very carefully. We will also ask you to fill out the health statement in order to avoid dangerous surprises during the Journey.

What happens next?

Within two working days you will receive a reply, with booking confirmation and info on how to prepare for your journey. We’ll ask you to pay the deposit in order to secure your place on board. You will receive information about payment in a separate email.

The reminder of the Journey fee is due 2 months before departure at the latest.

You will receive the latest information concerning your Journey by e-mail about one week before the voyage starts.

What do I need to arrange?

In order to join a sailing Journey you will need:

  1. Travel documents: a passport or international ID, and a visa if necessary;
  2. Health insurance from your country (bring your European Health Insurance Card if you are eligible to get one) and travel insurance which covers medical expenses abroad, loss of luggage and third party liability. Make sure that it includes sea sailing. Additionally, we recommend getting a (non-obligatory) cancellation insurance.
  3. If you have any health issues, ask your doctor’s opinion before joining.
  4. Travel to and from the ports – not included in the Journey price.

What do I need to bring?

When you book the Journey with us we will send you a relevant kitlist which describes everything you will need in detail, depending on the Ship.

Can I get assistance with organising the travel?

We understand that finding and booking the best traveling options can be difficult. Our travel counsellor Manon Eeken can book your transfers for you. Manon is a sailor and a travel agent with 25 years of experience.

Contact her at manon.eeken@travelcounsellors.nl +31 23 5762105

I don't have enough money to join - can you help?

Windseekers don’t give up! We realise that sailing might be an expensive adventure so we’ve come up with the Windseeker Dinghy Programme. The Dinghy is an online fundraising training and mentorship which will guide you through the process of raising the funds for your own journey. Read more about the Dinghy here.

Young Windseekers can apply for the Oman Bursary scheme. Each year young people between 15 and 25, who would like to join the Tall Ships Races or Regattas for the first time, can apply for the coverage of the journey costs – up to €500. For application form and more information email info@windseeker.org
