Santa Maria Manuela:
Terceira (PT) - Lisbon (PT)

12 September - 21 September 2023

Sail 855 nautical miles from the Azores to Lisbon over the Atlantic Ocean. Step on board in Azores’ oldest city and set course for the continent. The archipelago is a popular spot for whale watching, so keep your eyes on the sea as you leave the islands! Sperm whales are the resident species, with blue, fin and sei whales, and bottlenose, Atlantic spotted and common dolphins are also common at this time of year. Get involved in sailing the Ship, helping the professional crew to hoist the sails and steer Santa Maria Manuela towards Portugal. Learn some knots, relax in the bowsprit netting, and grab a drink on deck at sunset for the ultimate relaxing experience!
NOTE: When planning flights please bear in mind that we are granted no flexibility for the embarkation and disembarkation times from the customs authorities.
For Windseekers aged 14-80 years (trainees younger than 18 have to be accompanied by an adult).
Different cabins available: contact info@windseeker.org to enquire.

Ports

Terceira is one of the Azores islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Terceira is home to Azores' oldest city Angra do Heroismo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you like nature, visit the Algar do Carvao caves or Monte Brasil park. If you prefer history, stroll through Angra do Heroismo and don't miss the Town Hall! You can also climb up to Alto da Memoria for a beautiful view over the city.

Lisbon has a long and varied history as a major trading hub, much of which is still visible in the old city centre. Discover Alfama, the old quarters with its many old alleys, steps and the Lisbon Cathedral. The famous tram line 28 will get you there – an experience in and of itself. And be sure to check out a fado concert if you want to learn about saudade – loss, yearning and comfort, all rolled into one. Emotions that all seafarers will get to know one way or the other…

OTHER JOURNEYS YOU MIGHT LIKE

STO Garant

This Journey is covered by the STO Garant guarantee. You can find the conditions for this guarantee scheme on STO Garant’s website (www.sto-garant.nl/en/downloads).

This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything else. After receiving your booking, Windseeker will send you detailed information on how and when to pay for your journey – together with all the other important details.

What does it mean?

In short: you do not pay the booking amount to Windseeker but instead into an escrow account. This trust account holds your payment in reserve until your journey’s end. The booking amount is then released to Windseeker on the day after your trip ends. If Windseeker or the Ship should become financially insolvent before the end of your trip, STO Garant will implement the guarantee. The Guarantee Scheme details how you can make a claim under the guarantee in such cases. You can read more about this here.
