Oosterschelde:
Palmeira (CV) - Horta, Azores (PT)

25 March - 08 April 2027

From Cape Verde to the Azores – an ocean journey to remember! Step on board the Oosterschelde and leave Cape Verde behind, taking northwesterly course for close-hauled sailing. On deck, you will be an active participant: setting and trimming the sails, taking turns at the helm, learning navigation, course plotting, and weather interpretation. The watch system creates a steady rhythm on board. During the day, activity alternates with rest, while night watches create a unique atmosphere. Further north, the weather changes. Winds shift, temperatures drop, and conditions become more variable. This requires attention on deck, with frequent sail adjustments. Despite the distance from land, the life here is abundant: seabirds, dolphins, flying fish, and possibly whales as you approach the Azores. Gradually, land appears, and you enter the harbour of Horta, a renowned meeting place for sailors from around the world and your final destination on this voyage.
Open to Windseekers aged 18-73.

Ports

Palmeira is the third-largest town in Cape Verde, situated on the island of Sal, yet it still retains that cosy small village atmosphere. When you land in Palmeira you will have just completed a crossing over the Atlantic waters. Whilst resting in Palmeira, visit some bars and restaurants to try local specialties, or explore further to desert Oases, caves and beaches.

Horta is situated in the western part of the Archipelago of the Azores on the island of Faial. The marina is a primary stop for yachts crossing the Atlantic. Its walls and walkways are covered in paintings created by the crews of visiting ships. Peter’s Cafe Sport, located across from the marina, houses the island’s scrimshaw museum. A collection of artefacts carved from whale tooth and jawbone. This café is a point of reference for trans-Atlantic yachtsmen and sailors.
