Gallant:
Aalborg (DK) - Rostock (DE)

04 August - 06 August 2015

No frills but plenty of thrills on short this Journey with the Gallant from SAIL Aalborg to Rostock, across the Baltic Sea. You arrive in Aalborg to the spectacle that is the Tall Ships Races 2015, but once you cast off you’ll leave the excitement behind for the wide open waters of the Baltic. Help out on deck, setting and trimming the sails, and enroll in the watch system. Take the helm of this fast logger and find the perfect course. At night the ship is quiet as you and your watch mates continue on your Journey, keeping an eye on the navigational charts and on the distant lights of passing ships and light houses. You arrive in Rostock after only a couple of days, but it will feel like you’ve been on holiday for a week. It’s a pocket-size adventure! Open to Windseekers of all ages, minimum age 15 years (from age 12 years at request).

Ports

The final leg of the Tall Ships Races 2015 will finish in the grand port of Aalborg. Aalborg has had a love affair with The Tall Ships Races since 1999, when the city hosted the event for the first time. Aalborg is situated at the Liim Fiord where it was founded by Vikings over 1000 years ago. Today Aalborg is a modern city with visible historic roots. Its theatres, symphony orchestra, performance venues, and museums, make Aalborg a great place to wind down after an exhilarating Sail adventure.

Rostock is a large city on the Warnow River, and home to one of the oldest universities in the world. One of the most picturesque places in Rostock is the Neuer Markt (New Market Square), with the Town Hall - that was originally built in the 13th century in Brick Gothic style. The square also preserved six original, carefully restored gable houses from the 15th and 16th centuries. There are a lot more historical and cultural sights to see in this city. So go ahead, and explore!
