Morgenster:
Belfast (GB) - Alesund (NO)

03 July - 17 July 2015

Join the Morgenster for an EU Exchange “Erasmus+” voyage for trainees from the following countries: UK, Norway, France, Ireland, Netherlands. You will join Race 1 from the Tall Ships Races 2015, as well as the port festivities in Belfast and Aalesund. Besides sailtraining, you also will join an intercultural programme with the theme: “In the footsteps of the Vikings – exploration and trade over sea”. Make new international friends, learn how to handle the ship, and stand watch together with your fellow trainees and the crew. It promises to be an exhilarating journey where you will compete with the rest of the Tall Ship fleet towards the finish line. For Windseekers age 15-28 years. Ask for more information via info@windseeker.org

Programme Outline

Experience the famous Tall Ship Races (TSR). Meet people from all over the world. Learn how to sail a majestic Tall Ship. No sailing experience needed! Mingle with other cultures during the European Union international youth exchange organised on board. Party during the festivals in the host ports. The professional crew teaches you everything you want to know about sailing and the Tall Ship Morgenster. There is much to see and discover through the activities offered during the program.

Prepare for the Journey of a lifetime. Step on board of the Morgenster on the 3rd of July in Belfast. Unpack your bags and start your discovery of the Ship immediately with your fellow Windseekers. Smell the salt in the air, hear the seagulls scream in the wind and start setting sails! There will be fellow Windseekers from all over Europe joining you on this Journey. From France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Norway and Ireland. By the time you arrive in Ålesund you’ll be one big family!

You'll participate in the watch rotation, once a day and once a night. Become a skilled sailor by learning from the professional crew. Set and trim the sails, steer the ship, help the cook and do odd jobs on deck and below. Together with your fellow Windseekers you work on your best racing time. The crew is there to guide you during your watch. At the end of your European Union International Youth Exchange, you and your team are a comfortable and skilled sailing team.

After you reach the finish line, Ålesund awaits: Open-air free concerts, city tours and parties. Challenge the Windseekers from other ships for a sport activity and walk in the Crew Parade, watched by thousands of spectators all through the city. Last but not least you can join the crew party. Everyone who took part in the race of TSR 2015 will be there, so get ready to compare notes with your fellow contestants. You'll agree on one thing: the TSR 2015 rocks!

Ports

Belfast is the capital and the largest city of Northern Ireland. It started out as a small hamlet with fertile land along the mouth of the Lagan. Soon, marauders and pirates realised Belfast’s lough was deep and their shores were the perfect haven for repairing sea ravaged ships. Today Belfast is a wonderful city to explore! Visit the Titanic quarter waterfront, the Ulster Museum, or the Odyssey area where you'll find lots of entertainment. And spend some time in one of Belfast's many pubs.

Ålesund is once again host port for The Tall Ships Races in 2015. Ålesund harboured the event for the first time in 2001, in an intimate harbour amongst beautiful fjords, mountains and islands. Consisting out of seven islands, Ålesund is a modern city. In 1904 the city, once built largely of wood, was completely burned down by a sea of flames. After a period of planning, the town was rebuilt in stone, brick, and mortar in Jugendstil.

Sponsorship and costs

Your Life on Board covers 15 days, starting on the 19th of June and ending on the 4th of July 2015. The normal price for this voyage is €1475. If you're from one of the partnering EU countries (NO, NL, FR, IR, UK), and 15 - 28 years of age, you are eligible for the reduced price of € 975. Price excludes drinks at the bar and transportation to and from the Ship. After the Journey's conclusion you may be eligible for a partial refund of transfer costs.

This special project of 14 days is organized by Windseeker in coordination with partners in 5 different countries. The European Union provides partial funding through the "Erasmus+" programme. This programme promotes cultural exchanges between young European citizens. Erasmus+ covers a daily fee and hopefully a part of the traveling costs. This, combined with money from other funds, enables Windseeker to offer you this Journey at a reduced price.
