Morgenster:
Kristiansand (NO) - Rostock (DE)

26 July - 07 August 2015

Join the Morgenster for a EU Exchange “Erasmus+” of 12 days for trainees from the following countries: Norway, Denmark, Germany, Sweden and Netherlands. Besides receiving sailtraining, you also will join an intercultural programme during the Tall Ships Races (Race 2 and further on to Germany). The nautical theme of this exchange: “Old and New, a discovery of our cultural heritage and future”. Make new international friends, learn to handle the ship, and work together with your fellow trainees and the crew to set your course across the Baltic Sea. It promises to be a journey of epic discovery! For Windseekers age 15-28. Request more information or the special outline via info@windseeker.org

Programme Outline

Experience the famous Tall Ship Races (TSR), and learn how to sail a majestic Tall Ship. No sailing experience needed! Mingle with other cultures during the European Union international youth exchange organised on board. Party during the festivals in the host ports. The professional crew teaches you everything you want to know about sailing and the Tall Ship Morgenster. There is much to see and discover through the activities offered during the program.

Step on board of the Morgenster in Kristiansand, just in time for the second leg of the famous Tall Ships races. Unpack your bags and start your discovery of the Ship immediately with your fellow Windseekers. Before you know it the race is on! There will be Windseekers joining you on this Journey from the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. A perfect opportunity to pick up a new language! By the time you arrive in Aalborg you’ll be one big family!

You'll participate in the watch rotation, once a day and once a night. Become a skilled sailor by learning from the professional crew. Set and trim the sails, steer the ship, and do chores both on deck and below. Come together as a team and work on your best racing time. The crew is there to guide you during your watch. At the end of your European Union International Youth Exchange, you and your team will have experienced adventure at its most pure, on the waters of the Kattegat.

Your hard work will be rewarded in Aalborg with an epic crew party, where you will meet Windseekers from the other Tall Ships. Exchange experiences and enjoy good times while you can, because soon you will leave the festivities behind on the second stretch to Rostock, across the Baltic Sea. This is not a race, so you'll have more time to relax. Gaze at the horizon, curl up with a good book, or spend time in the company of your fellow shipmates. By the time you disembark you'll be a true sailor.

Ports

Kristiansand is the business and cultural capital of southern Norway. The sea and surrounding fjords are perfect for recreational activities like fishing and sailing, and the nearby inland and mountains are ideal for skiing and hiking. In the more urban areas you will find a rich variety of cafes, restaurants, art galleries and museums.

Rostock is a large city on the Warnow River, and home to one of the oldest universities in the world. One of the most picturesque places in Rostock is the Neuer Markt (New Market Square), with the Town Hall - that was originally built in the 13th century in Brick Gothic style. The square also preserved six original, carefully restored gable houses from the 15th and 16th centuries. There are a lot more historical and cultural sights to see in this city. So go ahead, and explore!

Sponsorship and costs

Your Life on Board covers 12 days, starting on July 26th and ending on August the 7th, 2015. The normal price for this voyage is €1475. If you're from one of the partnering EU countries (NO, DK, DE, SE, NL), and 15 - 28 years of age, you are eligible for the reduced price of € 975. Price excludes drinks at the bar and transportation to and from the Ship. After the Journey's conclusion you may be eligible for a partial refund of transfer costs.

This special project of 12 days is organised by Windseeker in coordination with partners in 5 different countries. The European Union provides partial funding through the "Erasmus+" programme. This programme promotes cultural exchanges between young European citizens. Erasmus+ covers a daily fee and hopefully a part of the traveling costs. This, combined with money from other funds, enables Windseeker to offer you this Journey at a reduced price.
