Santa Maria Manuela:
Horta (PT) - Lisbon (PT)

06 September - 15 September 2019

Sailing on the Ocean. Board Santa Maria Manuela in the remote archipelago of the Azores in the middle of the Atlantic. Get to know the ship before sailing out to the open water. Spend several days crossing the vast ocean, looking for whales and dolphins on the horizon and admiring stars without the light pollution of the city. Join the crew in sailing activities and get your sea legs! Pick up a fishing rod or a good book, play board games or share sailing stories with other participants by the bar. Enjoy long peaceful days and disconnect from your daily world. Spend 9 days of late summer making memories to last you through the winter. Open to Windseekers of 15 years and older.

Ports

Horta is situated in the western part of the Archipelago of the Azores on the island of Faial. The marina is a primary stop for yachts crossing the Atlantic. Its walls and walkways are covered in paintings created by the crews of visiting ships. Peter's Cafe Sport, located across from the marina, houses the island's scrimshaw museum. A collection of artefacts carved from whale tooth and jawbone. This café is a point of reference for trans-Atlantic yachtsmen and sailors.

Lisbon has a long and varied history as a major trading hub, much of which is still visible in the old city centre. Discover Alfama, the old quarters with its many old alleys, steps and the Lisbon Cathedral. The famous tram line 28 will get you there – an experience in and of itself. And be sure to check out a fado concert if you want to learn about saudade – loss, yearning and comfort, all rolled into one. Emotions that all seafarers will get to know one way or the other…
