Tecla:
Horta, Azores (PT) - Ullapool (GB)

22 April - 06 May 2027

A North Atlantic Crossing via the Hebrides. Board Tecla in the famous harbour of Horta, on the island of Faial, where sailors from all over the world have traced their stories into the paint-layered walls of the waterfront. Before departure, you’ll follow the tradition and visit the world-famous Café Peter Sport, sharing a drink beneath the flags, logbook notes and salty signatures that bind seafarers across time. As soon as wind and weather allow, you’ll leave the shelter of the islands, taking course across the Atlantic. Keep watch for many species whales and dolphins that frequent the area in May. As you approach the Hebrides, after 1200 nautical miles, the rugged outline of Scotland rises from the sea, often veiled in mist or shining in sharp, clear sun. Depending on the conditions, you may explore coastal anchorages along the Scottish shores, where fishing villages, quiet lochs, and weather-shaped cliffs tell stories as old as the tides themselves. Finally, you’ll reach Ullapool and disembark having completed an exhilarating ocean voyage!
Open for all Windseekers, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Horta is situated in the western part of the Archipelago of the Azores on the island of Faial. The marina is a primary stop for yachts crossing the Atlantic. Its walls and walkways are covered in paintings created by the crews of visiting ships. Peter’s Cafe Sport, located across from the marina, houses the island’s scrimshaw museum. A collection of artefacts carved from whale tooth and jawbone. This café is a point of reference for trans-Atlantic yachtsmen and sailors.

Ullapool, despite its small size is the largest settlement for many miles around and a major tourist destination of Scotland. The village was founded in 1788 as a herring port by the British Fisheries Society. A few Cordyline australis or New Zealand cabbage trees are grown in the town and are often mistaken for palms. The harbour is still the edge of the village, used as a fishing port, yachting haven, and ferry port. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings here.
