Isafjordur – Akureyri – Arctic foxes to the Arctic circle. This voyage starts off with a visit to Hornstrandir national park, only 15 mile to the North. The main attraction in this area is the Hornbjarg Cliff sitting at 533mtr above sea level. Enjoy an icy plunge in the North Atlantic after a warming bath in the natural hot spring, situated at the foot of the Krossneslaug mountain. It is one of those memorable experiences only Iceland can offer! Open to Windseekers, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Isafjordur (meaning ‘fjord of ice’) is a small port town in the northwest of Iceland. It is a major access point to the nature reserve on the Hornstrandir Peninsula, an uninhabited wilderness area to which ferries run weekly during summer. Despite its small population of 2600 people, the town has a relatively urban feel. It is considered a centre for alternative music and there’s even a hospital. Have a look around in the Maritime museum or go for a tour of the waterfalls and the nearby fjords.

Akureyri is a small city in northern Iceland. It is an important port and fishing centre. The Norse Viking Helgi magri (the slim) Eyvindarson originally settled the area in the 9th century. The city is surrounded by mountains, the highest being Kista (1447 m) and another peak of 1538 m at the head of Glerádalur. Go hiking for a day over the mountains or along the water. Enjoy the quiteness here and the great views with snowy hilltops. Nature is beautiful here and offers great photo material.
