Oban (GB) - Amsterdam (NL)

19 September - 02 October 2016

Caledonian Canal – Leaving Oban we set sail for Fort William at the foot of the Caledonian Canal. This is where our travel trough the Scottish interior begins, using the 107 kilometres long Caledonian Canal fitted out with 29 locks! Take Neptune’s staircase, find out if the Monster of Loch Ness will show its face to you or drink a beer in one of the lock pubs! We will spend several days in the Canal, under the watch full eye of Ben Nevis (standing at 1,344 metres (4,409 ft) above sea level!). Take the time for some amazing walks along the narrow Canal and up the hills and mountains of rough Scotland. Inverness is where we leave the canal and set in to the North Sea. Depending on the progress there should be time enough to visit one or more of the Dutch Islands on the North coast. Open for all ages, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Oban (meaning ‘little bay’ in Gaelic) is a small harbor town on the west coast of Scotland, famous for its whiskey distillery. The town occupies a beautiful setting in the Firth of Lorn, and is a perfect place to find shelter from the Atlantic. Walking around town is a pleasure, and close by you’ll find mountains, castles, dramatic coastal scenery, and McCaig’s tower that resembles the Colosseum. In the first week of August, the town plays host to West Highland week, a yearly sailing regatta.

With more bicycles than people, cycling is an integral part of Amsterdam's DNA. Hop on and see the city like the locals do! Winding waterways, idyllic bridges and historic buildings - one of the most memorable ways to truly see Amsterdam is from the canals. Amsterdam has a full cultural agenda showcasing the very best festivals, nightlife, exhibitions & events, plus there is enough practical tourist info, hotel, museum, excursion & attraction listings, you won't miss a thing!
