Programme Outline

Set the sails, steer the vessel; prepare national dinner, make friends from different countries and contribute to making the Earth a healthier place! Join an Erasmus+ International Youth Exchange. Step on board to sail around Sweden, explore its coastal towns and clean its beautiful beaches. This project is set in cooperation with By the Ocean we Unite who will send along a marine biologist who will teach us all there is to know about plastic pollution.

We will be doing scientific research and beach cleanups, making a difference whilst exploring new places! Earn a Youth Pass - the official EU certificate of skills and competences. The International Exchanges are a mix of Sail Training journeys and cultural programs. While the captain and his crew will teach you how to sail a Tall Ship, the mentors will make sure that everyone feels good on board and has fun participating in various activities.

Lastly, the marine biologist will make sure the data gathered during this voyage can be used for scientific studies: BTOWU will share the results of our water-samples (to be taken by you with a special net) with 5Gyres, an international organization concerned with this matter. You will join your peers in games and challenges; talk about your own country and learn about theirs; share your national food; and brainstorm about how to tackle sustainability issues like plastic pollution.

Besides being a great adventure, will this project also provide you with the knowledge and inspiration to start making a change yourself and contribute to making the world a healthier place. The Ship doesn’t stop when the night comes, that means that you will be working day and night to reach your destination! You will stand lookout, navigate, man the helm, cook and clean – and you do it all as a team. By the time you reach the destination port you will be like a family.

Ports

Swim, paddle and shop in this city rich with culture and history. Stockholm is located on Sweden's south-central east coast, where the freshwater Lake Mälaren, Sweden's third largest lake, flows into the Baltic Sea. Over 30% of the city area is made up of waterways. Another 30% is made up of parks and green spaces. Stockholm has become a modern, technologically advanced, and ethnically diverse city. Have fun while exploring this 'Venice of the North', on the water and the shores.

Karlshamn is small city in the southern Sweden, on the Baltic Sea coast. Visit the Karlshamns Museum to learn more about the history of the area and its history of producing tobacco and alcoholic punch. Take a trip to the Kreativum Science Center. Admire the Utvandrarmonumentet monument for all the Swedes who emigrate to America and explore the Skottsbergska Garden museum.
