Experience adventure on the high seas. Join Alexander von Humboldt II for a crossing of the Bay of Biscay, from Saint Malo to Bilbao. The square rigged ALEX 2 is perfectly suited for sail training, so you’ll get plenty of opportunity to hone your newfound skills. You and your shipmates will become fast friends as you work together to harness the winds and battle the big swell of the Bay of Biscay. But don’t forget to keep an eye on the horizon, because there might be whales nearby! At night, the starry skies will mesmerize you. By the time you arrive in Bilbao you’ll have gained new skills and experience in an adventure you will never forget! to all ages, minimum age 14 years.

Ports

Saint-Malo is an ancient French port. Within its old city walls you will find historic streets and alleys, a castle, and the Saint Vincent cathedral. The restaurants serve some of the freshest fish and fruits de mer you’ve ever eaten, straight from the fish market. The historic city centre has a romantic vibe that will have you wishing you could just stay a little while longer. Much of it was destroyed in World War II, but reconstructed in the original 18th century style.

Bilbao is a port in the northern tip of the Iberian peninsula, founded in the 14th century. Later on it became an important commercial hub for the Basque region. Today, Bilbao is a vigorous service city. Although Bilbao is not a major tourist destination, the iconic Bilbao Guggenheim museum is a must-see. Also take some time to walk around the city centre and visit the Exteberria Park. Around the city you can do many outdoor activities such as rock climbing, hiking and surfing.
