Morgenster:
Rostock (DE) - IJmuiden (NL)

09 August - 15 August 2015

Sail the Morgenster to her home country. Learn how to sail the ship and take the weel, together with your watch group. Climb the mast and see the sun rise over the horizon. Depending on the wind you will sail the first part via the Kieler Canal or via sea. After you sail the North Sea, maybe you can see the German & Dutch Wadden Islands on port side. This promises to be a fun trip where you will learn loads about ocean sailing, but also have time to relax and have fun together. When you arrive in IJmuiden you will join the festival PreSail IJmond, with a lot of activities and vessels that will come together for Sail Amsterdam. Join in with your new friends! This journey is open to Windseekers of all ages, minimum age 15-25 years.

Ports

Rostock, a vibrant city on the Warnow River, is home to one of the world’s oldest universities and rich in history and charm. One of its most picturesque spots is the Neuer Markt (New Market Square), where you’ll find the 13th-century Brick Gothic Town Hall and six beautifully restored gable houses dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. With many more historical and cultural sights waiting to be discovered, Rostock is the perfect place to explore!

IJmuiden, located on the west coast of the Netherlands, is the maritime gateway to Amsterdam, with both cargo vessels, and yachts passing through its busy locks daily. Its sheltered marina offers safe harbour from North Sea storms, while the wide sandy beach is a favourite spot for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Just behind the dunes lies a peaceful nature reserve, ideal for a hike or run, and the local restaurants serve fresh fish straight from the nearby market—perfect for a post-adventure meal.
