Stad Amsterdam:
IJmuiden (NL) - Porto (PT)

07 November - 17 November 2015

On Saturday November 7th the crew of the Clipper Stad Amsterdam will prepare the ship for her departure down south after a stay of almost a month in The Netherlands. The next morning the ship will set sail to Porto in Portugal. While sailing on the North Sea, the English Channel, past the Gulf of Biscay and on the Atlantic Ocean, you will experience the true beauty of a tall ship under sail. On Tuesday November 17th we will have to say goodbye and your sailing journey will end in Leixous, the harbor of Porto. This city on the North bank of the river Douro has much to offer! A perfect ending to your sailing adventure will be a stroll through one of the oldest European centres (registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and a tasting of the famous Port(o) wine. Open for all ages, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

IJmuiden, located on the west coast of the Netherlands, is the maritime gateway to Amsterdam, with both cargo vessels, and yachts passing through its busy locks daily. Its sheltered marina offers safe harbour from North Sea storms, while the wide sandy beach is a favourite spot for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Just behind the dunes lies a peaceful nature reserve, ideal for a hike or run, and the local restaurants serve fresh fish straight from the nearby market—perfect for a post-adventure meal.

Porto, located on the Costa Verde, is Portugal’s second-largest city and a busy port town. Porto’s long and varied history has left many beautiful old buildings that you can discover by walking around the ‘Ribeira’ – the old city centre that is a World Heritage site. City walks can be demanding as Porto is built in the coastal hills, but that also means that each corner offers a new, exciting vista! And you can always cool your heels on Porto’s rustic terraces and vibrant street side cafés.
