Ullapool (GB) - Oban (GB)

12 September - 18 September 2016

Mull of Kintyre – The 150 or so miles between Ullapool and Oban is a challenging stretch of water, littered with Islands, small and big! Starboard or port there is a great range of perfect anchorage and naturel harbours. The “Small Isles”, consisting of Rum, Eigg , Canna and Muck for example are well worth a visit. While more of the beaten track places like Loch Scaviag at the foot of the Cuillins will tempt us to climb its summits. We will be overwhelmed with stunning views! Wild live is abundant, ranging from Minke whales , Basking Sharks to Golden Eagles and otters. Soon after leaving Ullapool we are facing a choice. Leaving Skye to port and sailing through the Minch. Coming from the north passing the Mull of Kinteyre the Island of Mull lies befor us. Open for all ages, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Ullapool, despite its small size is the largest settlement for many miles around and a major tourist destination of Scotland. The village was founded in 1788 as a herring port by the British Fisheries Society. A few Cordyline australis or New Zealand cabbage trees are grown in the town and are often mistaken for palms. The harbour is still the edge of the village, used as a fishing port, yachting haven, and ferry port. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings here.

Oban (meaning ‘little bay’ in Gaelic) is a small harbor town on the west coast of Scotland, famous for its whiskey distillery. The town occupies a beautiful setting in the Firth of Lorn, and is a perfect place to find shelter from the Atlantic. Walking around town is a pleasure, and close by you’ll find mountains, castles, dramatic coastal scenery, and McCaig’s tower that resembles the Colosseum. In the first week of August, the town plays host to West Highland week, a yearly sailing regatta.
