Reykjavik (IS) - Isafjordur (IS)

10 June - 23 June 2016

Icelandvoyage – The Wild Wild West – The first leg of this trip will be the longest. You will leave Reykjavik and set sail for arguably Icelands prettiest town, Stykkisholmur, a convenient stop to plan our excursion to the Snaefellsjokull. After having a close look at one of Iceland’s great glaciers will set of for the largest of the Breidafjordur Islands, Isle of Flatey. Covered in bright yellow Buttercups it sets itself apart. After having enjoyed the tranquillity of this superb little Island our journey north continues. Fjords are waiting to be explored. It is a short hop to Vatnsfordur Nature Reserve. With every mile we sail to the north we are getting closer to another highlight of this trip, Hornstrandir National park! After cruising the Hornstrandir area there might still be time to visit Adey Island. Having had a close look at Kaldalon glacial lagoon at the foot of Drangajokull glacier we will arrive in Isafjardarjup . A great place to begin or end your ventures in to the wild! Open for all ages, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Reykjavík is the capital of Iceland. As you approach from the sea, you’ll sea a modern city skyline with snowy volcanic mountains in the background. Reykjavík is quite cosmopolitan, with plenty of culture and entertainment. Go for a night on the town, or find a tour that takes you to see the glaciers, geysers, and volcanoes for which Iceland is famous. Reykjavík’s climate is less cold than you’d expect. At Nauthólsvík you’ll even find a geothermically heated beach!

Isafjordur (meaning ‘fjord of ice’) is a small port town in the northwest of Iceland. It is a major access point to the nature reserve on the Hornstrandir Peninsula, an uninhabited wilderness area to which ferries run weekly during summer. Despite its small population of 2600 people, the town has a relatively urban feel. It is considered a centre for alternative music and there’s even a hospital. Have a look around in the Maritime museum or go for a tour of the waterfalls and the nearby fjords.
