Lisbon (PT) - Cadiz (ES)

24 July - 29 July 2016

* No places available anymore/ fully booked* Join the Mir for the experience of a lifetime. During Race 2 of the Tall Ships Races 2016 you will set sail from Lisbon to Cadiz. Make new friends with Windseekers from all over the world. Set your course over the Atlantic Ocean to the South and experience the adventure of the biggest sail race of the year. Learn the ropes, cross the finish line and enjoy a Journey you will never forget! In Cadiz you will be welcomed with an epic crew party and crewparade. For Windseekers from all ages, minimum age 21 years.

Cadiz stands on a peninsula jutting out into a bay, and is almost entirely surrounded by water. It attained great splendour in the early 16th century as a launching point for the journey to the newly discovered lands of America. Cadiz was later raided by Sir Francis Drake, in the struggle to gain control of trade with the New World, and managed to withstand a siege by Napoleon’s army. In the early 19th century Cadiz became the bastion of Spain’s anti-monarchist, liberal movement, as a result of which the country’s first Constitution was declared here in 1812.

Ports

Lisbon has a long and varied history as a major trading hub, much of which is still visible in the old city centre. Discover Alfama, the old quarters with its many old alleys, steps and the Lisbon Cathedral. The famous tram line 28 will get you there – an experience in and of itself. And be sure to check out a fado concert if you want to learn about saudade – loss, yearning and comfort, all rolled into one. Emotions that all seafarers will get to know one way or the other…

The oldest city in Spain, with a wealth of historic landmarks. Water is never far away, as the old town is built on a narrow stretch of land jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea. Get lost in the Old town with its many narrow, winding streets and visit one of the many parks that dot the city. Its many cathedrals and plazas are also well worth a visit. Go to La Caleta beach, at La Viña, the old fisherman quarter. Go catch a Flamenco concert and feast your taste buds with the fresh sea foods.
