Erasmus+ International Exchange during the Tall Ships Races: Exploring coastal waters. Only for young people aged 15-25 from: The Netherlands, France, Norway, Finland, Hungary and Italy. Join the program in Fredrikstad, and spend two days getting to know each other before boarding the Ship as a group. On board the crew will teach you everything you need to know about sailing a Tall Ship while the mentors will organise an educational program with a focus on sustainability issues such as the plastic-pollution in our seas. Open to Windseekers aged 15-25 (26-28 at request via info@windseeker.org). Additional fees may apply due to the necessity of becoming a member of partner organisation of your country (up to EUR 50).

Programme Outline

This voyage is during a Cruise-in-Company of the 2019 Tall Ships Races. This means you can expect spectacular events, especially in your destination port. Be ready for the Crew Parade, Crew Party, competitions and fireworks. Meet trainees from different vessels and soak in the atmosphere! The first 2 days will be spent in Frederikstad, staying at a hostel and exploring the city before boarding the Morgenster on the 13th. These 2 nights at hostel are part of the Exchange and included in the price

By entering an Erasmus+ Funded International Exchange not only will you sail the high seas but you will also learn about other cultures and customs. With many nationalities on board you will enjoy cultural dinner parties and all kinds of activities to learn about other cultures and make international friends. Aside from the professional sailing Crew, during International Exchanges there are mentors on board to help you adjust to the life on a Ship and organize the additional activities.

Some of them will be focused on sustainability, with an emphasis on plastic pollution. Whether you are an experienced sailor or stepping on board for the first time there is no denying that this is an important matter. Onboard the Morgenster, our mentors and you have an excellent setting to teach each other about solutions, big and small. Joining this project will not only mean sailing along a magnificent coast, it will also mean gaining knowledge on what you can do to protect the seas!

The Ship doesn’t stop when the night comes, that means that you will be working day and night to reach your destination! You will be divided into watches and work in shifts of 4 hours on, 8 hours off. That means two watches per day: one in daytime and one in the night. Don’t worry, your sleep pattern will soon adjust. For participating in the voyage you will receive a Youth Pass - the official EU certificate of skills and competences.

Ports

100 km south of Oslo, Fredrikstad is a coastal town, on the East side of the Oslofjord. Fredrikstad has a mix of old and new – The ‘Gamlebyen’ Old Town is a well-preserved star fort, across the water from the modern waterfront. Visitors can also visit the 16th-century Kongsten fort, or Scandinavia’s largest model railway. Fredrikstad will be a host port for the Tall Ship Races 2019.

Bergen is the gateway to the Fjords of Norway and a well-established cruise port. It’s an international city packed with history and tradition, a big city with small-town charm and atmosphere. Stroll around old streets and alleyways, and mingle with the crowds at the Fish Market. Saunter along the listed wooden buildings at Bryggen to the old fortress at Bergenhus, or call in at one of Bergen’s museums and galleries. The panoramic views of the city, the fjord and the ocean are breathtaking.
