Morgenster:
Fredrikstad (NO) - Lerwick, Shetland Islands (GB)

17 July - 28 July 2023

The Tall Ships Races 2023: Cruise in Company. If you love large sailing events but don’t have much of a competitive spirit, then this journey is for you! Find Morgenster in Fredrikstad, moored among many international Tall Ships – a unique and beautiful sight. Leave port in a Parade of Sail and make your way towards the Shetland Islands together with the fleet. Along the way you will have the time to explore smaller coastal towns or anchor in a bay for a swim. You will reach your final destination with two days left to enjoy the festivities in Lerwick! Join the others in a Crew Parade, cheer at the award ceremony, dance at the Crew Party and visit other Ships.
For Windseekers aged 15-70.

The Tall Ships Races

Every year dozens of Tall Ships, as well as small ships and yachts gather for races and harbour events, which include Crew Parades, Crew Parties, competitions, concerts, fireworks and more. Every leg starts with Parade of Sail – a spectacular departure of all the Ships together, and ends with the last two days of the Journey spent in the destination port.

The Tall Ships Races 2023 will take the fleet across the North Sea 4 times! Starting in Den Helder, the Netherlands, the Ships will embark on Race 1 to Hartlepool in Great Britain. Race 2 will take them to Norwegian Fredrikstad, from where they will sail in Cruise in Company to Lerwick in the Shetlands. The final Race 3 will end back in Norway – this time in a charming town of Arendal.

Ports

100 km south of Oslo, Fredrikstad is a coastal town, on the East side of the Oslofjord. Fredrikstad has a mix of old and new - The 'Gamlebyen' Old Town is a well-preserved star fort, across the water from the modern waterfront. Visit the 16th-century Kongsten fort, or Scandinavia's largest model railway. Fredrikstad has successfully been a host port for the Tall Ship Races before, welcoming sailors and visitors with great events.

Lerwick is the capital of the Shetland Islands, 160 km north off the coast of Scotland. In 1999 the town of 7500 inhabitants was a host port to the Tall Ships Races, temporarily boosting the population by over 100%! The town itself is small, but there are beautiful sights to see, like Fort Charlotte, the Shetland museum and the ruins of Clickimin Broch. The island's windswept hills are perfect for a strenuous hike, and will give you a good reason to replenish lost calories in the town’s tavern.

STO Garant

This Journey is covered by the STO Garant guarantee. You can find the conditions for this guarantee scheme on STO Garant’s website (www.sto-garant.nl/en/downloads).

This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything else. After receiving your booking, Windseeker will send you detailed information on how and when to pay for your journey – together with all the other important details.

What does it mean?

In short: you do not pay the booking amount to Windseeker but instead into an escrow account. This trust account holds your payment in reserve until your journey’s end. The booking amount is then released to Windseeker on the day after your trip ends. If Windseeker or the Ship should become financially insolvent before the end of your trip, STO Garant will implement the guarantee. The Guarantee Scheme details how you can make a claim under the guarantee in such cases. You can read more about this here.
