The Tall Ships Races 2019: delivery and Race 1. This trip of almost 2 weeks will take you from Aarhus in Denmark to Aalborg – the starting port of the Races. Join the port activities and celebrate the opening of the huge maritime festival before embarking on a race to Norway. Expect warm welcome in Fredrikstad with yet more activities and many international crews from dozens of vessels to meet! Please be aware that the Ship’s core team and many volunteers are Christians. They are happy to talk about their faith while letting people make their own decisions about what they believe. The EUR price is for reference only and it might change slightly depending on the exchange rate. The binding price is GBP 1,099/935. Open to Windseekers aged 15-25.

Programme Outline

Once again in 2019 the Tall Ships from all over the world will come together to compete in the 63rd annual Tall Ships Races. Race 1 will take you from Denmark to Norway. You will leave the city of Aalborg in a spectacular Parade of Sail, before embarking on an exciting race. After a few days on the open sea you will reach Fredrikstad where you will join your fellow trainees from other Ships in Crew Parade, Crew Party, friendly competitions and visiting other vessels.

As a Windseeker you will be a trainee on board of the Morning Star of Revelation. Under the watchful eye of professional crew members you will be responsible for sailing the Ship from setting and trimming the sails, through looking out for other vessels, to navigating and steering. You will have day and night watches, and also some time to relax and enjoy the journey!

Ports

Aarhus is a port city on the northeast coast of Jutland, Denmark. One of its highlights is Den Gamle By, an open-air museum featuring historic buildings from across the country. The impressive 13th-century cathedral is another must-see. With its laid-back atmosphere and plenty to explore, Aarhus is a favourite among tall ship crews who return again and again. Just west of the city, lakes and forests offer great hiking opportunities for those looking to enjoy the outdoors.

Aalborg has shared a special connection with The Tall Ships Races since first hosting the event in 1999. Located on the Limfjord, the city was founded by Vikings over a thousand years ago and still proudly showcases its historic roots. Today, Aalborg is a modern, vibrant city with a rich cultural scene – home to theatres, a symphony orchestra, museums, and performance venues. It’s the perfect place to relax and reflect after an unforgettable sailing adventure.

100 km south of Oslo, Fredrikstad is a coastal town, on the East side of the Oslofjord. Fredrikstad has a mix of old and new – The ‘Gamlebyen’ Old Town is a well-preserved star fort, across the water from the modern waterfront. Visit the 16th-century Kongsten fort, or Scandinavia’s largest model railway. Fredrikstad has successfully been a host port for the Tall Ship Races before, welcoming sailors and visitors with great events.
