Exchange@sea for young people (ages 18-25) from the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden. Join Skibladner II for an exciting youth voyage with sustainable theme. Make friends from different countries, learn to sail, and study plastic pollution of the sea. Enjoy days spent out sailing, singing shanties and sharing stories, and night watches filled with stargazing. Learn about the marine environment and what you can do to preserve it. Visit new places, and meet Ingo, another Ship sailing with young people, to exchange your stories and experiences, and make even more international friends!
Open to young Windseekers aged 18-25 from the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden (you must be at least 18 years old on the day of the journey start). Participating Windseekers need to become members of their country’s Sail Training organisation for a small fee (approx. € 20 – € 50).
For Swedish trainees: places at request.

About the Journey

Sail Skibladner II in an international adventure! Step on board and meet your fellow crew mates from Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands. Start making new friends, with the help of Windseeker mentors, who will organise fun activities for the whole group. Get together with other trainees from your country to present your culture to others, and help to prepare a national meal, which you will share with everyone. Set up an international playlist, and try some delicious snacks from other countries.

Learn to sail a traditional Ship - no previous experience needed. Join the experienced crew in every activity, from hoisting the sails, to navigating, and from looking out for obstacles to steering the vessel all on your own - what a rush! Sail day and night, divided into watches, and enjoy the feeling of unity when you work shoulder to shoulder to bring Skibladner to your next destination. Learn a few shanties and useful knots, and enjoy being out on the sea, with only the horizon before you.

Sail with a purpose and make a difference by joining The Ocean Movement scientist in plastic research of the seas. Collect and analyse water samples, which will then be entered into a database, contributing to a global citizen science research. Learn about the types of plastic most harmful to the ocean life, and how to avoid them. Create your own plastic-free cosmetics, and organise a couple of beach cleanups to leave the visited places cleaner than you've found them.

No budget? No worries! The Windseeker Dinghy will help you get on board. The program, much more than just a fundraising training, is part of your preparation and included in the Exchanges. Raise money for your journey, supported by an experienced coach. Learn new things about yourself and gain life skills. It is also a great way to connect with other trainees. Let us know at booking if you’d like to take part. Join Dinghy and get going!

STO Garant

This Journey is covered by the STO Garant guarantee. You can find the conditions for this guarantee scheme on STO Garant’s website (www.sto-garant.nl/en/downloads).

This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything else. After receiving your booking, Windseeker will send you detailed information on how and when to pay for your journey – together with all the other important details.

What does it mean?

In short: you do not pay the booking amount to Windseeker but instead into an escrow account. This trust account holds your payment in reserve until your journey’s end. The booking amount is then released to Windseeker on the day after your trip ends. If Windseeker or the Ship should become financially insolvent before the end of your trip, STO Garant will implement the guarantee. The Guarantee Scheme details how you can make a claim under the guarantee in such cases. You can read more about this here.
