Fair winds, fair planet in 3 countries: sustainable Exchange@sea youth journey co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. For trainees from France, Netherlands, Norway, Hungary, and Denmark. Sail from Brest in France, via Danish Esberg to Langesund in Norway with young people from several different countries. Sail a magnificent Dutch tall ship Gulden Leeuw together with your new international friends. Join The Ocean Movement marine biologist in plastic research of the sea, and contribute to a global database of plastic pollution. Organise climate actions on land, and learn to recognise the marine animals, from birds to dolphins. Have a great adventure filled with sailing, learning, and making friends!
For young Windseekers aged 15-25, ages 26-28 at request. Participate in Dinghy to raise money for your journey and learn new things about yourself. Additional fees may apply due to the necessity of becoming a member of a partner organisation of your country (up to € 25-50).

About the Journey

Step on board the Gulden Leeuw, a large Dutch Tall Ship, for a comprehensive Sail Training experience. From down in the engine room to all the way up on the mast, and from the net below the bosprit to the table at the aft - the ship will become your second home. The crew will teach you everything you need to know: how to safely climb the masts, which shanties to sing when pulling the ropes, how to steer close to the wind, and plot your position on the charts. Ready to take over the ship?

Make international friends from different European countries, and share your own culture with them. Bring your favourite music from your country: cleaning the ship can be a lot of fun when done to the international playlist - that's why we call it the happy hour! Spend an afternoon in the galley with the cook, helping them to make some of your national dishes to share. Play fun games, and beat the other watches in competitions set out by the Windseeker mentors.

Deploy the manta trawl and collect water samples for analysis. Did you find any microplastics? Log them into an international database to contribute to the global research. Organise coastal cleanups and environmental awareness actions with the local public. Learn about the ocean ecosystems and how we can preserve them. Make your own plastic-free cosmetics, and share the best sustainable practices from your country with the other trainees.

No budget? No worries! The Windseeker Dinghy will help you get on board. The program, much more than just a fundraising training, is part of your preparation and included in the Exchanges. Raise money for your journey, supported by an experienced coach. Learn new things about yourself and gain life skills. It is also a great way to connect with other trainees. Let us know at booking if you’d like to take part. Join Dinghy and get going!

Ports

Brest is a major French port on the Atlantic coast, historically of strategic importance. Much of the town was destroyed during World War II, but some historic landmarks remain. Today Brest is an important navy port, so expect to see war ships berthed in the harbor. Every four years, Brest hosts the international festival of the sea, boats and sailors, with many Tall Ships attending. South of Brest you will find national park d’Armorique, a tranquil reserve where you can escape from the city.

Langesund is a coastal town in southern Norway, by the Skagerrak strait. The area is beautiful, with landmarks such as The Olav Church Ruin, dating back to 1150. For great views you can't miss the Langøytangen fyr lighthouse. Take some time to get out of town and walk a portion of the Coastal path trail to stretch your legs and enjoy the amazing nature.

OTHER JOURNEYS YOU MIGHT LIKE

STO Garant

This Journey is covered by the STO Garant guarantee. You can find the conditions for this guarantee scheme on STO Garant’s website (www.sto-garant.nl/en/downloads).

This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything else. After receiving your booking, Windseeker will send you detailed information on how and when to pay for your journey – together with all the other important details.

What does it mean?

In short: you do not pay the booking amount to Windseeker but instead into an escrow account. This trust account holds your payment in reserve until your journey’s end. The booking amount is then released to Windseeker on the day after your trip ends. If Windseeker or the Ship should become financially insolvent before the end of your trip, STO Garant will implement the guarantee. The Guarantee Scheme details how you can make a claim under the guarantee in such cases. You can read more about this here.
