Reykjavik (IS) - Ullapool (GB)

17 October - 27 October 2023

This voyage is all depending on wind and weather. The roughly 700 miles between Reykjavik and Ullapool can be sailed in 5 days with a favorable wind, leaving time for exploring the archipelagos of Scotland. But if winds are less favorable, this will mean only sea time until Ullapool. Underway you can expect all kinds of weather, as well as many sea birds and hopefully some sea mammals! Leaving Reykjavik the chances are that you will see Orcas, Humpback Whales and Common dolphins. Which are not at all Common when they play with the bow wave and send you off on a good voyage! Open for all Windseekers, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Reykjavík is the capital of Iceland. As you approach from the sea, you’ll sea a modern city skyline with snowy volcanic mountains in the background. Reykjavík is quite cosmopolitan, with plenty of culture and entertainment. Go for a night on the town, or find a tour that takes you to see the glaciers, geysers, and volcanoes for which Iceland is famous. Reykjavík’s climate is less cold than you’d expect. At Nauthólsvík you’ll even find a geothermically heated beach!

Ullapool, despite its small size is the largest settlement for many miles around and a major tourist destination of Scotland. The village was founded in 1788 as a herring port by the British Fisheries Society. A few Cordyline australis or New Zealand cabbage trees are grown in the town and are often mistaken for palms. The harbour is still the edge of the village, used as a fishing port, yachting haven, and ferry port. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings here.
