Thalassa:
Aalborg (DK) - Tórshavn (FO)

02 August - 14 August 2026

Clear Seas Up North: Exchange@Sea on board the Thalassa for young trainees from the Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, and Norway. Sail from Aalborg, Denmark, to the remote Faroe Islands on this sustainable youth journey. Begin your adventure along the northern coast of Denmark, explore the Norwegian coastline, and embark on a multi-day (and night!) crossing of the North Sea. Join the watches to help sail the ship alongside your fellow trainees, conduct plastic research with The Ocean Movement, share your favorite meals from home with other nationalities, and make new friends while experiencing life at sea.
This journey is open to young Windseekers aged 15-25 (ages 26-28 at request, from the following countries: Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland and Norway.

About the Journey

Step on board tall ship Thalassa in Aalborg and set sail across the North Sea towards the Faroe Islands. Explore the stunning coast of Norway before heading into open waters for several days. Learn to handle the sails, steer the ship, and stand your night watches with an international crew of young people. Feel the thrill of teamwork as you climb the rigging or haul on the lines together before making landfall in Tórshavn – a historic port surrounded by dramatic cliffs and ocean views.

Work alongside The Ocean Movement on vital ocean research. Tow a Manta trawl to collect microplastic samples, analyse your findings, and add them to a global database. Step ashore to organise beach clean-ups and raise awareness in local communities, leaving a positive mark behind. Take part in creative workshops to make your own plastic-free cosmetics, and exchange sustainable ideas with your international crew for a cleaner future.

Live and sail with an international crew, making friends from across Europe along the way. Share stories about your culture, and introduce the group to your favorite food, music, and traditions. Join games, creative workshops, and challenges prepared by mentors to strengthen teamwork and trust. Spend evenings swapping songs and stories on deck, and nights talking with your watch-mates under the stars. Leave the ship with memories and friendships that last long after the voyage ends.

No budget? No worries! The Windseeker Dinghy will help you get on board. The program, much more than just a fundraising training, is part of your preparation and included in the Exchanges. Raise money for your journey, supported by an experienced coach. Learn new things about yourself and gain life skills. It is also a great way to connect with other trainees. Let us know at booking if you’d like to take part. Join Dinghy and get going!

Ports

Aalborg has shared a special connection with The Tall Ships Races since first hosting the event in 1999. Located on the Limfjord, the city was founded by Vikings over a thousand years ago and still proudly showcases its historic roots. Today, Aalborg is a modern, vibrant city with a rich cultural scene – home to theatres, a symphony orchestra, museums, and performance venues. It’s the perfect place to relax and reflect after an unforgettable sailing adventure.

Tórshavn has been the capital of the remote Faroe Islands since the year 850. The city (whose name literally means “Thor’s harbour”) has around 15,000 inhabitants and is located on the largest island of the archipelago: Streymoy. Take a walk through the historic centre with old grass-roofed buildings and visit the Listasavn Foroya – the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands, then relax in the nearby Viðarlundin Park or take a trip to the Skansin Fortress, built to protect the city from pirates.

STO Garant

This Journey is covered by the STO Garant guarantee. You can find the conditions for this guarantee scheme on STO Garant’s website (www.sto-garant.nl/en/downloads).

This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything else. After receiving your booking, Windseeker will send you detailed information on how and when to pay for your journey – together with all the other important details.

What does it mean?

In short: you do not pay the booking amount to Windseeker but instead into an escrow account. This trust account holds your payment in reserve until your journey’s end. The booking amount is then released to Windseeker on the day after your trip ends. If Windseeker or the Ship should become financially insolvent before the end of your trip, STO Garant will implement the guarantee. The Guarantee Scheme details how you can make a claim under the guarantee in such cases. You can read more about this here.
