Amsterdam (NL) - Aalborg (DK)

20 July - 03 August 2015

Join the Thallassa for an international EU Exchange “Erasmus+” journey for trainees from the countries: Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, France and Italy. Besides sailtraining, you also will join an intercultural programm during a part of the Tall Ships Races 2015 (Race 2). The theme of this special European Union / Erasmus+ program is: Create Common Grounds. Make new international friends and learn to handle the ship as you work together with your fellow trainees and the crew to sail to the finish of the Tall Ships race as quick as you can. It promises to be a journey of epic discovery! Email info@windseeker.org for more information and the special outline. For Windseekers age 15-28 years.

Programme Outline

Sail from Amsterdam and join the famous Tall Ship Races (TSR). Learn how to sail a majestic Tall Ship. No sailing experience required! Meet new friends from other countries through the European Union international youth exchange on board. Party during the festivals in the host ports. The professional crew teaches you everything you want to know about sailing and the Tall Ship Thalassa. Get your sealegs and find common ground at sea through the activities offered during the programme.

You board the Thalassa on the 20th of July in Amsterdam. Unpack your bags and start your discovery of the Ship immediately with your fellow Windseekers. Find your footing on deck, brace for the wind and start setting sails! There will be fellow Windseekers from all over Europe joining you on this Journey, from Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and Italy. Perfect for practicing your language skills! By the time you arrive in Aalborg you’ll be one big family!

You'll participate in the watch rotation, once a day and once a night. Become a skilled sailor by learning from the professional crew. Set and trim the sails, steer the ship, help out in the galley and do chores on deck and below. Together with your fellow Windseekers you work as a team to sail Thalassa at her fastest. The crew is there to guide you during your watch. At the end of your European Union International Youth Exchange, you and your team are a comfortable and skilled sailing team.

On your way from Amsterdam to Kristiansand (Norway) you cross the North Sea, notorious for her sometimes choppy waves. It's the perfect water to practice your sailing skills. Once you arrive in Kristiansand, you'll join the rest of the Tall Ship fleet for the second leg of the Tall Ships Races 2015. Get ready to show off your newly found prowess on the water and sail as quick as you can to Aalborg, where you and your fellow Windseekers will be met with an epic crew party and port festivities.

Ports

With more bicycles than people, cycling is an integral part of Amsterdam's DNA. Hop on and see the city like the locals do! Winding waterways, idyllic bridges and historic buildings - one of the most memorable ways to truly see Amsterdam is from the canals. Amsterdam has a full cultural agenda showcasing the very best festivals, nightlife, exhibitions & events, plus there is enough practical tourist info, hotel, museum, excursion & attraction listings, you won't miss a thing!

The final leg of the Tall Ships Races 2015 will finish in the grand port of Aalborg. Aalborg has had a love affair with The Tall Ships Races since 1999, when the city hosted the event for the first time. Aalborg is situated at the Liim Fiord where it was founded by Vikings over 1000 years ago. Today Aalborg is a modern city with visible historic roots. Its theatres, symphony orchestra, performance venues, and museums, make Aalborg a great place to wind down after an exhilarating Sail adventure.

Sponsorship and costs

Your Life on Board covers 14 days, starting on July 20 and ending on the 3rd of August 2015. The normal price for this voyage is €1330. If you're from one of the partnering EU countries (NO, DK, NL, IT), and 15 - 28 years of age, you are eligible for the reduced price of € 825. Price excludes drinks at the bar and transportation to and from the Ship. After the Journey's conclusion you may be eligible for a partial refund of transfer costs.

This special project of 14 days is organised by Windseeker in coordination with partners in 4 different countries. The European Union provides partial funding through the "Erasmus+" programme. This programme promotes cultural exchanges between young European citizens. Erasmus+ covers a daily fee and hopefully a part of the traveling costs. This, combined with money from other funds, enables Windseeker to offer you this Journey at a reduced price.
