Kiel (DE) - Buckie (GB)

28 June - 04 July 2015

Sail on a mile maker Journey with the Tall Ship Thalassa, from Kiel to Buckie, Scotland via Helgoland. If you’re a Windseeker, you’ll love this opportunity to be an integral part of the crew, doing your part in sailing the ship and keeping Thalassa shipshape. Take your turns in the watch system, help hoist and trim the sails, lend a hand in the galley, and learn more about navigation. The experienced crew will teach you all you need to know! You’ll soon discover there’s always something to do on board, but you’ll still find time for some restful horizon gazing, or curl up with a good book in your comfortable cabin. Meanwhile, the wind and the waves will quickly dissolve the stresses of daily life and deliver you in Scotland rejuvenated, with some real ocean experience under your belt. Open to Windseekers of all ages, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Kiel is a German port town on the Baltic coast, widely known for its yearly ‘Kiel week’ – the biggest yearly regatta in the world! Many thousands of boats and ships of all kinds and eras take part in the parade. Kiel Week is also a festival, Volksfest and fair as well as a maritime event. But Kiel offers more: a slew of museums (zoological, geological, historical, fine art, industrial, and military museums), a city centre with relaxed atmosphere, and the water and shores of the Kieler Fjord.

Buckie is situated on the north coast of Scotland in the Speyside area. It’s a quiet town, surrounded by beautiful scenery, so put on your hiking boots and explore! You’ll find magnificent coastal scenery all along the Banff coast, with easy access to areas such as Glenlivet, Speyside and the Cairngorms. As is typical of towns in the area, Buckie is well served by golf courses. The historic port west of town was filled in during the 1970s. Today it is a park – well worth a visit.
