Thalassa:
Oban (GB) - Southampton (GB)

07 September - 12 September 2024

A milemaker: bring Thalassa from Oban in Scotland all the way to the south of England in this 5-day journey of intense sailing. Make your way down the Irish Sea, sailing along the coast of Great Britain to your destination. This journey is a delivery, which means that its main focus is on reaching Southampton, and not sightseeing along the way. Please note that this trip will only take place if there are sufficient registrations (at least 15 participants). In case of cancellation for this reason, you will receive a full refund of your (advance) payments.
Open to all Windseekers over 18 years of age.

Ports

Oban (meaning ‘little bay’ in Gaelic) is a small harbor town on the west coast of Scotland, famous for its whiskey distillery. The town occupies a beautiful setting in the Firth of Lorn, and is a perfect place to find shelter from the Atlantic. Walking around town is a pleasure, and close by you’ll find mountains, castles, dramatic coastal scenery, and McCaig’s tower that resembles the Colosseum. In the first week of August, the town plays host to West Highland week, a yearly sailing regatta.

Southampton, on the shores of the Solent, is the largest port of England. The bustling town offers plenty of distractions, and is known (sometimes reviled) for its brutalist architecture. However, the city hosts a number of fine museums, the Tudor House, and long stretches of medieval walls. Also, the beautiful English countryside is just a short drive away. The yearly Southampton boat show in september should be on any Windseeker's calendar. And don't forget to visit the Isle of Wight!

OTHER JOURNEYS YOU MIGHT LIKE

STO Garant

This Journey is covered by the STO Garant guarantee. You can find the conditions for this guarantee scheme on STO Garant’s website (www.sto-garant.nl/en/downloads).

This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything else. After receiving your booking, Windseeker will send you detailed information on how and when to pay for your journey – together with all the other important details.

What does it mean?

In short: you do not pay the booking amount to Windseeker but instead into an escrow account. This trust account holds your payment in reserve until your journey’s end. The booking amount is then released to Windseeker on the day after your trip ends. If Windseeker or the Ship should become financially insolvent before the end of your trip, STO Garant will implement the guarantee. The Guarantee Scheme details how you can make a claim under the guarantee in such cases. You can read more about this here.
