Ullapool (GB) - Ullapool (GB)

10 May - 16 May 2016

Join with Tecla St Kilda, Flanagan group, North Rona- From Ullapool you will set sail for Hirta, the main Island in the St Kilda archipelago. Before the evacuation in 1930 the people on St Kilda made a living out of collecting birds. The main attraction on the Island, apart from the wild live is the little town with its “black houses” and its church with school. They also bred sheep and harvested their wool. Due to the isolation of the Island some of its Fauna have become endemic sub species, like the St Kilda Wren and the St Kilda Field Mouse. After visiting St Kilda and seeing the nesting birds and grazing sheep you will set sail for new places. If the weather permits Tecla will try to stop at these extraordinary islands. As well as North Lewis, were we can visit the Callanisch Standing Stones and the Gearannan black houses. Open to all ages, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Ullapool, despite its small size is the largest settlement for many miles around and a major tourist destination of Scotland. The village was founded in 1788 as a herring port by the British Fisheries Society. A few Cordyline australis or New Zealand cabbage trees are grown in the town and are often mistaken for palms. The harbour is still the edge of the village, used as a fishing port, yachting haven, and ferry port. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings here.
