Oosterschelde:
Rotterdam (NL) - Brest (FR)

04 July - 12 July 2016

Rotterdam-Brest. We cross the North Sea and through the Strait of Dover we reach the English Channel. Here we will make our first stop, for example on Alderney or in Cherbourg. Then we continue west. Île d’Ouessant marks the end of the English Canal. Along the coast of Bretagne we sail down and if wind and weather is favourable we will visit ‘Belle Île’ before we arrive in Brest. Open to all ages, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Rotterdam is the largest port of Europe, and a modern, bustling town. Much of the historic city centre was destroyed during World War II, but extensive rebuilding resulted in a modern, multicultural city with many architectural highlights. Rotterdam has excellent cultural facilities and a diverse nightlife; during the summer the city hosts a large number of events. Discover the city by bicycle or on foot – or take a train to the nearby Hague.

Brest is a major French port on the Atlantic coast, historically of strategic importance. Much of the town was destroyed during World War II, but some historic landmarks remain. Today Brest is an important navy port, so expect to see war ships berthed in the harbor. Every four years, Brest hosts the international festival of the sea, boats and sailors, with many Tall Ships attending. South of Brest you will find national park d’Armorique, a tranquil reserve where you can escape from the city.
