Challenge Wales:
A Coruña (ES) - Lisbon (PT)

26 August - 02 September 2023

The Tall Ships Races Magellan-Elcano: Cruise in Company. What better way to spend late summer than cruising along the Iberian coast with an international fleet? Step on board Challenge Wales, a fast and inclusive sailboat, with long history of participating in the Tall Ships Races. Leave A Coruna in a Parade of Sail, among a fleet of Tall Ships from all over the world. Then set course south, sailing on the Atlantic, along the coast of Spain and Portugal. Take your time, stopping along the way to explore a small harbour, or jump straight into the sea for a swim. Sail up the Tagus river to moor in Lisbon, where a nautical festival will await your arrival. Spend the last two days enjoying the activities and getting to know the crews from other vessels. Open for Windseekers aged 16-25.

Ports

A Coruña is a port town in the north west of Spain. Here you will find the Tower of Hercules, a lighthouse that has been in operation for 1.800 years! The town itself is an affluent commercial and tourism hub, with plenty of things to see and do. Visit the popular beaches, explore the city centre, or sample some of the many cultural activities. The Aquarium Finisterrae lets you explore the marine life of the region. But if you prefer your fish on a plate, A Coruña’s restaurants can help you out.

Lisbon has a long and varied history as a major trading hub, much of which is still visible in the old city centre. Discover Alfama, the old quarters with its many old alleys, steps and the Lisbon Cathedral. The famous tram line 28 will get you there – an experience in and of itself. And be sure to check out a fado concert if you want to learn about saudade – loss, yearning and comfort, all rolled into one. Emotions that all seafarers will get to know one way or the other…

OTHER JOURNEYS YOU MIGHT LIKE

STO Garant

This Journey is covered by the STO Garant guarantee. You can find the conditions for this guarantee scheme on STO Garant’s website (www.sto-garant.nl/en/downloads).

This process is automatic and you do not need to do anything else. After receiving your booking, Windseeker will send you detailed information on how and when to pay for your journey – together with all the other important details.

What does it mean?

In short: you do not pay the booking amount to Windseeker but instead into an escrow account. This trust account holds your payment in reserve until your journey’s end. The booking amount is then released to Windseeker on the day after your trip ends. If Windseeker or the Ship should become financially insolvent before the end of your trip, STO Garant will implement the guarantee. The Guarantee Scheme details how you can make a claim under the guarantee in such cases. You can read more about this here.
